{Book Review & Giveaway} Dr Carey's Baby Care Guide for that Important First Year

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

A Doctor’s Original Baby Care Guide for that Important First Year

With over 120 full color pictures, I am able to share baby care as
if you were in my office. Neatly written in under 100 pages (print
version), this easy to understand guide is written by a doctor to assure
reliable information for you and

your child. My goal in writing this
guide is to ease your concerns and eliminate those sleepless nights. Dr.
Carey’s® First Year Baby Care Guide will provide essential baby care
knowledge and a better understanding of when your baby needs to be seen
by a professional. In short, the confidence to be an outstanding parent
to your baby.

Some of the topics Dr. Carey shares in this book
:

Your baby’s developmental milestones

Newborn rashes explained

How to handle minor medical problems as they arise

Surviving your baby being sick

Answers to the most common questions parents ask

PLUS – A place to record your baby’s milestones

My Review:

As a Nurse and Mother of three, I have read a selection of baby books over the years to help me figure out what I consider "minor" issues that come up that are usually not worth taking my child into the office for a visit to figure out.  I have a couple that are my "go to" books that I highly recommend to any expecting parent, babysitter, parent, grandparent or caregiver for young ones.  Dr Carey's Baby Care Guide is definitely one that I would recommend as an addition to those all-important reference books that I consider a must-have for anyone taking care of infants!

I was quite impressed with the subjects covered in this small book as well as the full-color, real life photos.  I can't tell you how many times I read about an issue but wished for a good picture example to compare my son's or daughter's problem to, and this book has a wonderful amount of reference photos.

This book is full of great advice and examples for baby care that any caregiver would love to have on hand.

This book is organized in a user-friendly way, where the most common questions are handled by topic, as well as an informative appendix, which cross-references topics and
situations as well. A great book for a baby shower or new parent gift - or a great book for any caregiver to keep on hand!

{Product Review} OvenArt NonStick Silicone Muffin Pan

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Get ready for stress-free baking and scrub-free cleaning with this wonderful silicone muffin pan by OvenArt Bakeware.

OvenArt Solves The Problems of Metal Muffin Pans

As you probably know, metal muffin pans have frustrating drawbacks.
Metal rusts, wraps, and wears down with use. Stuck-on food is annoying
and a nightmare to clean. And then there are the chemical nonstick
coatings that eventually scrape off and only leave you

wondering if it
all went into your food.

A Nonstick Muffin Pan That's Worth It

We make our much loved silicone muffin pan with an expensive grade of
pure 100%, high quality European silicone. Soon, you'll be confidently
turning even the stickiest and messiest recipes into delightful muffins,
cupcakes, cornbread, egg muffins and more. Food will slide out
effortlessly and bake perfectly every time using your safe, BPA-free,
filler-free, and worry-free silicone bakeware.

Cleanup Is A Breeze

Isn't it annoying to have to soak and scrub a pan? You'll really
appreciate how easy this muffin pan cleans up. The magic nonstick baking
cups clean with a little detergent and water or you can toss the pan in
the dishwasher. With such an easy cleanup, why stop at making muffins
and cupcakes? Enjoy delicious non-muffin recipes such as taco cups, crab
cakes, mini lasagnas, and frozen desserts (it's safe for the oven,
freezer, microwave, and dishwasher).

Perfect For First-Time Silicone Bakers

New silicone users love the results batch after batch. They enjoy
healthy homemade treats and save on store-bought packaged goods. This
high quality muffin pan is protected by the OvenArt "Better Muffin"
Guarantee for lifetime assurance against defects and performance issues.

My Review:

For this review I really put the OvenArt Muffin Pan to the test.  I made applesauce - pineapple cupcakes, which are very moist.  And, to make the test better - I put half of the mix in the OvenArt Muffin pan and the other half in a metal pan with muffin wrappers like I usually do.

The OvenArt Muffin Pan baked the cupcakes nicely though it took a few minutes longer in the oven to get them completely done than that of the metal pan.  I used a butter knife to gently loosen around the edges of the cupcakes before removing them from the pan - then carefully pushed on the bottom of each area to release and remove the cupcakes.

There was very little cupcake crumbs left behind in the Muffin Pan - I was actually surprised at how easily

they released.  I have tried a silicone muffin pan in the past and it mushed up any cupcakes or muffins I made when I tried to get them to release - this one however from OvenArt releases easily and with little to no mess - even with moist cupcakes!  Yes, I'm pleasantly surprised!

I do believe that I will be using my OvenArt Silicone Muffin  Pan with every batch of muffins or cupcakes I make - especially with my jalepeno cheddar corn muffin recipe!

(Book Review) Biff & Becka's Stupendous Vacation ~ Christian Children's Fiction

Biff’s anticipated family vacation takes an unexpected turn. How will
he deal with bitter disappointment? Is his summer ruined? Will he be
humiliated by his friends?

In interesting twists and turns, the
author takes Biff and his rabbit family through a trying time that has a
surprising outcome. Engaging questions

for each chapter at the end
encourage lively discussion between your child or grandchild and you.

The author paints a picture of a godly home to give encouragement and guidance to parents who struggle and kids who hurt.

Biff
and Becka’s Stupendous Vacation helps your child know how to deal with
disappointment. It also helps children relate to family and friends
with honesty and respect.

My Review:

I understand wanting to share a moral and Godly message with children and parents - and this book definitely goes above and beyond with that message.  The entire first chapter is a "pour it on thick" type of sermon that seems to go on forever.  Once the first chapter is finally over, the story actually begins and it is a good story.

With characters that are in a rabbit family that acts like humans which is not unusual, but it does not carry over into the rest of their world - other animals in the story are just animals, while they are talking, thinking, praying rabbits who wear clothes and do everything humans do, why couldn't they just be human kids?  Or why aren't all the animals human-type?

Anyway overall it is a nice story with a great moral message - I just felt it could have been written better so that children would enjoy reading it for the story itself and see the message within rather than having it shoved at them right from the beginning.  Sorry, I just really had a hard time with that first chapter.  Don't get me wrong - I agree with most everything said, just do not feel it belongs in a large sermon in a child's story.  I'm afraid I'm a bit conflicted with this one and not sure I'd read any others in the series personally.

{Book Tour & Giveaway} When God is Silent by Kellie Lane

Book Description:

"When God is
Silent” confirms through scripture that God indeed hears the cries
of

his elect and the broken hearted. The book explains to the reader
why he or she may be waiting on the answers to their prayers and how
to endure in a season of

silence.

It also reveals how to recognize
"God's answer" if he chooses to answer differently than
what we anticipate. The take home message is “ Never Give up! Even
if God is not talking he’s still listening”.

We must learn to
“push, pray, and persist” until we reach the point of
breakthrough. God desires to give only the best to his children. We
must understand this.

Excerpt:

Introduction

I know now, Lord, why you utter no
answer. You yourself are the answer.

—C. S. Lewis

If you’re reading this book, more
than likely you are in what is called a pressed place; a place of
waiting. Does it seem as if God has forgotten about you? Has everyone
else around you begun to celebrate their miracles, yet you are still
crying yourself to sleep at night? Are you feeling a

sense of weariness and emptiness? Have
you been praying and crying out to God day in and out and still you
see no change? Have you found yourself wondering if God has gone on
vacation? Have you been contemplating that perhaps what you are
believing God for is not in His will? Well if this describes you,
congratulations! You are next in line for a miracle. I decree and
declare defeat is not your portion; victory is your portion. Receive
it, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

What the enemy wants us to believe is
that God will never answer our prayers. The kingdom of darkness works
overtime as we get closer to our breakthroughs. Satan and

His generals know that if he can get us
to lose our focus, we will not be in position when the fullness of
time comes and we will miss the blessing. We must know without a
doubt that God is faithful and never fails. We must be certain that
even if God is not talking, He’s still listening.

For it is written:

But verily God hath heard me; he hath
attended to the voice of my prayer.

—Psalm 66:19

{Book Review} Labeled by Humanity, Loved by God by

Labeled by Humanity, Loved by God is an inspiring story of how one,
small determined girl depends upon God to transform her life. Doctors
predicted she would never walk advising her parents to put her away in a
home when she was born with a severe deformity of her lower

legs and
feet.

Labeled lame at birth, with twisted stumps for feet, only two toes
per foot, no ankles, and calves the size and shape of a tiny ball bat,
God has proven he is able!

The book is splashed with vivid photos that
will amaze you, along with personal accounts of how God has rescued,
forgiven, delivered and continues to mold her life.If humanity labels
you as different or perhaps a misfit, God loves you, as his child.

First paragraph excerpt:

Darkness, miserable and pitch
black.  Darkness yearning desperately for
a flicker of light to prove hope exists.
Misery ushered in on a day that should’ve been one of the happiest in my
parent’s lives.  A darkness so black it
was if I had licked my tiny thumb and forefinger and snuffed out the only
candle that lit the room.   I have just
been delivered in a small community hospital in northwest Georgia.  If I could speak I would ask “Mommy, do you
love me?”

My
memoir, Labeled by Humanity, Loved by God answers that question. Go
with me on my journey from darkness to light, desperation to hope...

Review:

This story is about one woman's life from birth to adulthood, from
deformed to transformed, from humanity's labels to God's love. I can not put
this book down. It is for anyone, even if they do not have a deformity in their
physical body, but struggles with "labels" that society has put on them. Through
it all, God is there to show them that they are loved and accepted by him.

{Review & Giveaway} Dapper Snappers Toddler Belts - Keep the pants up but don't hinder potty training!

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

A Dapper Snappers Toddler Belt is a half belt that only goes around the
back 3 belt loops of the child's pants. They don't get in the way of
potty training (no belt buckles to fuss with) and they don't impede
diaper changes. It consists of a short piece of suspender elastic with
snaps that fits in the back 3 belt loops of the

child's pants and snaps
over the outer 2 loops to cinch the pants thereby keeping them from
falling down.

Dapper Snappers are:

*Versatile in a wide range of colors for girls and boys

*Recommended for ages 9 months -6 years old and One Size Fits All

*Perfect for kids who are in between sizes or wearing hand-me-downs!

*Adjustable to 4 sizes

*Convenient - no need to remove for diaper changes & doesn’t impede potty training

*100%  in the USA

*Mom-invented

My Review:

I wish I'd had these when my oldest was a toddler - they are great for helping keep pants up yet, easy to avoid the problems that traditional belts cause during potty training or just plain "have to go" time.  It is almost like having an "adjustable waist" at the back of any pair of pants, shorts or even skirts.  Perfect for even older children (older as in I used it on my 6 yr old and it fit!) who need a little help making those hand-me-downs fit right.  Here she is in the picture below wearing a hand-me-down skirt from her sister, and a Dapper Snapper in Lavendar!  Works Great!

For children like my middle one who have a tiny waist yet need longer length in pants - in order to get pants that are the correct length for her legs, she ends up with adjustable waist that is cinched as tight as possible and look funny but is the only way to keep them on her little waist.

With Dapper Snappers - no need to only buy the adjustable pants or skirts - now you can use any style with ease just by putting this amazing half-belt suspender snapped to just the right size on any pants, shorts, skirts to make them the perfect fit.

Now, you can go clearance shopping, yard saling, hand me downing with joy!  Knowing that there is a simple and fun way to make sure your little darling can not only comfortably wear the clothing you get him or her, but also that they will do it with style and still be able to use the potty!

Love this product - of course it was created by a Mom like me!  LOL  One who finally found a great way to fix an irritating issue by using her Mommy Smarts!  Go Grab some Dapper Snappers for your little ones - oh, and if I didn't mention it - they come in a variety of colors and styles to suit even the pickiest toddler (or Mom/Dad)

Not a parent yet?  Don't worry Dapper Snappers has the solution for you too - they now make them for women - lost a bit of weight and your favorite skirt is a little roomy?  Add a Dapper Snapper in Women's styles to get that perfect fit back.

Expecting a little one yet don't want to spend a fortune on maternity clothing?  Add a Women's Maternity Dapper Snapper to keep wearing your favorite pants, shorts and skirts for as long as you can!

{Review} Online Martial Arts Training Course for Kids ~ MOOC

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

The web's first Martial Arts for Kids MOOC (Massive Open Online Classroom).

Although the primary benefit of training in the system is self defense children will also gain in other areas. Such as:

Respect- They will learn the protocols and meanings of these

protocals. these are designed to teach respect for oneself and others.

Discipline- Our martial arts instruction is inspiring.
Children will be inspired to work hard and will thereby naturally
develop self discipline.

Physical Fitness - Classes are energetic. Kids will get lots of exercise.

Coordination - Shou' Shu' develops coordination.
Especially due to that large amount of cross lateral motions. Cross
lateral motions have been shown to enhance learning. Especially helpful
for kids with ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia or similar.

Ant-Bullying - Kids will learn to understand how to prevent bullying as well as determining threat level and appropriate responses.

Fun - classes your child is sure to enjoy!

The program includes 13 lessons and a handbook.

My Review:

With my childrens' busy schedules, school, music lessons, art, tumbling and more I just can't find the time to fit in everything I would like them to do - plus the cost can be outrageous for some of the activities we would like to enjoy.  So, when offered the chance to try out an online Karate Class for kids - I was so excited.

My son and I have previously taken a beginner class together but found that the cost and time were just too much for us to manage in our schedule so we had to drop that activity.

Now, I have access to an instructor and "class" anytime that fits in our schedule AND I can watch the instructions over and over until we get it right.  Much better than a little instruction to a lot of people that we quickly forget - now, we can watch and learn the moves over and over until they are correct without wasting the time of the rest of the "class."

I love how this program starts with very basics - correct stance, bowing, proper respect, and the correct terms/names for each.  It can be as slow or fast as the learner can handle and is easy to repeat a lesson anytime!  The instructor is easy to understand and goes slowly so that each move is repeated and done in a way to make it easy to see and learn. Highly recommended by this Mom Reviewer for kids (and parents too)!

{Book Tour, Review & Giveaway} The Ripple Effect by Jennifer Griffith & Amazon Gift Card Giveaway

Immersed tour

Immersed NewImmersed by Jennifer Griffith

Lisette Pannebaker speaks five languages and has a brilliant business plan—personal language immersion. Clients can hire her to shadow them and speak all day in any language they need to learn for business or travel—whatever.
But there’s a major hitch: she’s far too pretty. Clients with less than honorable intentions sign up just

have Lisette at their side.

Solution? A make-under. Way under. It works like a charm. None of her male clients show her the least bit of interest.
Until… Erik.

Erik Gunnarsson is charming, kind, and smart—everything she’s ever looked for. Even though he seems to have a secret and she swore she'd never date a client, Lisette is tempted to shed her disguise—even if it means jeopardizing her career.

Author Jennifer Griffith

unnamedFDRE9K6NJennifer Griffith studied French, German, Japanese, and a wee bit of Spanish in her school days. Her grandmother was Norwegian, and Jennifer grew up with lots of Scandinavian traditions floating around, including fabulous cardamom laced cookies called Krumkaker, made on a fancy waffle iron. However, she’d never dream of trying to teach someone any of those languages. And she might botch the cookies. Instead, she writes novels in English, drives her five kids a million places, and laughs with her husband, who came up with the plot for Immersed because he’s just a cool muse like that.

Review:

Immersed is the sixth book in the Ripple Effect series by author  Jennifer Griffith.  Once again the reader (namely ME) is taken on an epic adventure straight from the author's imagination to my ereader.  The main character, Lisette has a horrible problem - men can't get past her pretty face to see her in a professional way - so she does what any beautiful, intelligent woman does for her career, she gets a "make-under."  Yep, that's right - sort of a make over only opposite.  She wants to be less attractive and more plain so that the male clients who hire her don't focus so much on her physical attributes, yet one doesn't seem to get the message - and she finds herself smitten with him and considering exposing her little make under.

As the story unfolds, I found myself laughing and loving how well-written the characters are, how engaging the story is and how much I have enjoyed reading not only this book but the others in this series.

Although Immersed is the sixth in the series, I felt that this story could be read on it's own without having to read the first five books.  A fun and fantastic clean read that kept this reader entertained from beginning to end.

{Book Review} Seasons of Tomorrow by Cindy Woodsmall ~ Amish Fiction

As love restores Rhoda, a sudden tragedy is the test of faith she never saw coming.

More
settled in her heart than ever before, Rhoda Byler feels a newfound
confidence living in the Old Order Amish settlement she helped establish
in Orchard Bend, Maine. Time has helped to heal the wounds of Rhoda’s
recent severed relationship, and she finds that even her unusual gift of

profound intuition is less of a burden as she continues to seek God’s
wisdom for her future. She is happy to be working alongside the King
family and the love of her life as they tend and nurture the
settlement’s orchard.

Yet when Leah King’s involvement with
Englischer Landon Olson becomes known outside of the Maine community,
her disregard of the Ordnung could threaten all the Orchard Bend Amish
are building. In the midst of addressing the discord, a shocking
tragedy challenges the young settlement like never before, threatening
to uproot Rhoda’s peace and the future of everything she holds dear.

When
several members of Orchard Bend Farms are displaced, the estranged King
brother is called upon to return. Can those who founded the new Amish
community in Maine unite Or will the lingering pain of past hurts and
present struggles result in the end of their dreams?

Review:

Cindy Woodsmall continues the life of Rhoda in her Amish Vine and Orchard
series. This was the 4th book in the series, but the first book I read and I
found it worth reading and held my interst from the introduction to the end. The
book takes Rhoda through the struggle of keeping a newly founded Amish community
together while dealing with the pains of past hurts and present struggles. I
look forward to finding the first 3 book so I can fully understand the complete
story line involved in this series. I would recommend this book as well as the
rest of the series to anyone that loves to read Amish books.
