My Review:

I have now read all three of The Sinclair Sisters of Cripple Creek stories to date.  This third book in the series gives the reader an in-depth look at the "baby" of the family, Vivian.  I felt like Vivian had been a typical spoiled baby sister, wanting her own way before she went to join her older sisters in Cripple Creek, and had learned some hard life lessons in a very difficult way.  Though she seemed to be more mature and to have learned from the mistakes in her past, she seemed to continue to resent her older sister's influence in her life at times, and I think it led to her making more mistakes that could possibly been avoided if she would have just taken the time to talk with one or more of them.



This realistic sibling dynamic made the story much more enjoyable for me, as well as the estranged romance between Vivian and Deputy Alwyn.  The overwhelming lesson of forgiveness, faith and acceptance is an integral part of the story from beginning to end.  This heartwarming story is one that shows how forgiveness, love, and family loyalty can help overcome difficult circumstances.  I also enjoyed the mystery and danger involved that gave the wild west type feel to this story that I really like.



This is a good christian fiction romance, with some wild west outlaws, soiled doves,  train robbery and so much more excitement thrown in the mix.  Although it can be read alone, I do recommend reading the first two books in the series first in order to get to know many of the other characters in this story.

Chapter
One

I’m staring down a line of jumps that should scare my brand-new
show breeches right off me.

But it doesn’t. Major and I know our jobs here. His is to read
the combination, determine the perfect take-off spot, and adjust his stride
accordingly. Mine is to stay out of his way, and let him jump.

We hit the first jump just right. He clears it with an
effortless arc, and all I have to do is go through my mental checklist. Heels down. Back straight. Follow his mouth.

“Good boy, Major.” One ear flicks halfway back to acknowledge my
comment, but not enough to make him lose focus. A strong, easy stride to jump
two, and he’s up, working for both of us, holding me perfectly balanced as we
fly through the air.

He lands with extra momentum; normal at the end of a long,
straight line. He self-corrects, shifting his weight back over his hocks. Next
will come the surge from his muscled hind end; powering us both up, and over,
the final tall vertical.

It doesn’t come, though. How can it not? “Come on!” I cluck,
scuff my heels along his side. No response from my rock solid jumper.

The rails are right in front of us, but I have no horsepower –
nothing – under me. By the time I think of going for my stick, it’s too late.
We slam into several closely spaced rails topping a solid gate. Oh God. Oh no. Be ready, be ready, be ready.
But how? There’s no good way. There are poles everywhere, and leather tangling,
and dirt. In my eyes, in my nose, in my mouth.

There’s no sound from my horse. Is he as winded as me? I can’t
speak, or yell, or scream. Major? Is
that him on my leg? Is that why it’s numb? People come, kneel around me. I
can’t see past them. I can’t sit up. My ears rush and my head spins. I’m going to throw up. “I’m going to …”

I flush the toilet. Swish out
my mouth. Avoid looking in the mirror. Light hurts, my reflection hurts,
everything hurts at this point in the afternoon, when the headache builds to
its peak.

Why me?

I’ve never lost anybody close to me. My grandpa died before I
was born, and my widowed grandma’s still going strong at ninety-four. She has
an eighty-nine-year-old boyfriend. They go to the racetrack; play the slots.

If I had to predict who would die first in my life, I would
never, in a million years, have guessed it would be my fit, strong,
seven-year-old thoroughbred.

Never.

But he did.

Thinking about it just sharpens the headache, so I press a towel
against my face, blink into the soft fluffiness.

“Are you OK?” Slate’s voice comes through the door. With my mom
and dad at work, Slate’s been the one to spend the last three days distracting
me when I’m awake, and waking me up whenever I get into a sound sleep. Or
that’s what it feels like.

“Fine.” I push the bathroom door open.

“Puke?”

I nod. Stupid move. It hurts. Whisper instead. “Yes.”

“Well, that’s a big improvement. Just the once today.”

She follows me back to my room. She’s not a pillow-plumper or
quilt-smoother – I have to struggle into my rumpled bed – but it’s nice to have
her around. “I’m glad you’re here, Slatey.” I sniffle, and taste salt in the
back of my throat.

I’m close to tears all the time these days. “Normal,” the doctor
said. Apparently tears aren’t unreasonable after suffering a knock to the head
hard enough to split my helmet in two, with my horse dropping stone cold dead
underneath me in the show ring. I’m still sick of crying, though. And puking,
too.

“Don’t be stupid, Meg; being here is heaven. My mom and Agate
are going completely over the top organizing Aggie’s sweet sixteen. There are
party planning boards everywhere, and her dance friends are always over giggling
about it too.”

“Just as long as it’s not about me. I don’t want to owe you.”

“’Course not; you’re not that
great of a best friend.”

Review:

An intriguing story of hope in spite of grief and suffering.  A dynamic story written for young adults but also appropriate for middle grade readers as well.  Well written and engaging, a story that will capture the imagination of any reader.

I love stories with animals and overcoming difficulties in life.  This story captured my interest right away and kept me reading long into the night.  One that many readers will enjoy whether you like horses or not.

Review:

Cathy a divorcee, living alone in the county part of Sonoma County
California has company come for a stay while the husband looks for work as a
chef in the area. Sparks begin to fly between Cathy and the husband of the
friend staying with her as well as their young daughter. To find out what
happens in this tale of twisted love, you will have to read it. It is an
excellent book that draws you in from the very beginning all the way to the
end.

Review:

Immersed is the sixth book in the Ripple Effect series by author  Jennifer Griffith.  Once again the reader (namely ME) is taken on an epic adventure straight from the author's imagination to my ereader.  The main character, Lisette has a horrible problem - men can't get past her pretty face to see her in a professional way - so she does what any beautiful, intelligent woman does for her career, she gets a "make-under."  Yep, that's right - sort of a make over only opposite.  She wants to be less attractive and more plain so that the male clients who hire her don't focus so much on her physical attributes, yet one doesn't seem to get the message - and she finds herself smitten with him and considering exposing her little make under.



As the story unfolds, I found myself laughing and loving how well-written the characters are, how engaging the story is and how much I have enjoyed reading not only this book but the others in this series.



Although Immersed is the sixth in the series, I felt that this story could be read on it's own without having to read the first five books.  A fun and fantastic clean read that kept this reader entertained from beginning to end.

{Review} My Hope is Found by Joanne Bischof ~ Book 3 of The Cadence of Grace Series

My Review:

My Hope is Found by Joanne Bischof is the third book in The Cadence of Grace series.  I was not overly thrilled with where this story took me.  First, I am still questioning how a man can not know he is already married, when he marries another and has a child with her.  Second, how can he leave them behind to return to the woman who claims she is his lawful wife, get an annulment, then return to his second wife in the early 1900s?  And finally, how can a young woman who just lost her husband to another woman find herself falling in love with another man so soon?



I just had a hard time with this story - it most likely would have made more sense it I had the chance to read the first two books of this series - and for those who have, I definitely recommend this book as it does finish the story of poor Gideon and Lonnie's fate.  But for those who have not read books 1 and 2, I highly recommend reading them first as this will most likely make much more sense than it did to me.



Overall, this story was well written, though confusing at times to this reader.  The story did have a good flow and I like the unique idea behind it - I will be looking into reading the first two books when I get the chance, then can come back and reread this one from a new perspective!

Yet there was no lingering on thinking of that man—no sirree! Not for a moment! Not for any reason—ever. And so Jilly just kept telling Jack that he was the handsomest man in Mourning Dove Creek. Besides, it was almost true—being that the other man lived outside of town and not right in town the way Jack did

My Review:

Although many readers have enjoyed this story, I personally didn't care for it as much as other books by this wonderful author.  I thought the main female character, Jilly was shallow and aggravating and I guess it just left me frustrated with her throughout the story.  I think many others will love this story, it just didn't captivate me the way her previous book have and my aggravation with Jilly's attitude and behavior made it hard for me to like her and hard for me to enjoy this book.

But as I always recommend, this is just one reader's opinion, don't take just my work for whether or not this is a book worth reading.  Give it a try for yourself!
