Rules of Murder by Julianna Deering - book tour

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

Rules of Murder

Bethany House Publishers (August 1, 2013)

by

Julianna Deering

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

JULIANNA DEERING has always been an avid reader and a lover of storytelling, whether on the page, the screen or the stage. This, along with her keen interest in history and her Christian faith, shows in her tales of love, forgiveness and triumph over adversity. A fifth-generation Texan, she makes her home north of Dallas with three spoiled cats and, when not writing, spends her free time quilting, cross stitching and watching NHL hockey. Her new series of Drew Farthering mysteries set in 1930s England debuts with Rules of Murder (Bethany House, 2013) and will be followed by Death by the Book (Bethany House, 2014).

ABOUT THE BOOK

Downton Abbey Meets Agatha Christie in This Sparkling Mystery

Drew Farthering loves a good mystery, although he generally expects to find it in the pages of a novel, not on the grounds of his country estate. When a weekend party at Farthering Place is ruined by murder and the police seem flummoxed, Drew decides to look into the crime himself. With the help of his best friend, Nick Dennison, an avid mystery reader, and Madeline Parker, a beautiful and whip-smart American debutante staying as a guest, the three try to solve the mystery as a lark, using the methods from their favorite novels.

Soon, financial irregularities at Drew's stepfather's company come to light and it's clear that all who remain at Farthering Place could be in danger. Trying hard to remain one step ahead of the killer--and trying harder to impress Madeline--Drew must decide how far to take this game.

If you would like to read the first chapter of Rules of Murder, go HERE.

I am a reviewer for Christian Fiction Blog Alliance.  All info in the post above was provided by the author through CFBA. For more info, see my FTC disclosure or Review Policy.

Midnight Masquerade by Marcia Lynn McClure Book Blast & $50 GC Giveaway @marciamcclure #BookBlast

midnight mas
Midnight Masquerade

Stavos Voronin was not as blind-eyed as many nobles and royals. Evony’s physical gestures—even the simplest movement of her hands—revealed that she had not always been destitute. The same was true of the children—of their polished manners and the boy’s knowledge of horses and tendency to be bold and fearless of strangers.

Ah yes, Stavos enjoyed a good mystery. After all, interest in the inexplicable circumstances surrounding the royals of Abawyth was the very thing that had lured him to the kingdom—the enigma of Abawyth’s twelve sleepy princesses. And yet now—now his mind was all the more intrigued. Not only was the obscurity of what had caused the profound and baffling torpidity of Abawyth’s princesses laid out before him, but also he found his curiosity intensely piqued over the riddle surrounding the very lovely Evony and her siblings.

As Stavos strode through the village resting on the outskirts of Abawyth Castle, his mind reeled with possibilities. His musings were drawn back to why he had come to Abawyth at all—to solve the conundrum surrounding the twelve beautiful princesses of Abawyth kingdom—to solve the seemingly impenetrable crux and thereby win the hand of one of Abawyth’s princesses, as his father, King Letholdus of Ethiarien, had commanded.

Simply Snackin Review ~ Flavorful and healthy snacks for people on the go!

Simply Snackin® offers High protein, low calorie gourmet dried meat snacks that are great for peopl who are on-the-go and have active, healthy lifestyles.  They are healthier alternatives to other meat stick or jerky type snacks.  They look similar to jerky, but Simply Snackin products deliver an experience unlike any conventional jerky.  With bite after bite of moist, lean, savory chicken breast or beef sirloin that is paired with flavorful mangos, apples, blueberries and other artisan ingredients.

Simply put, Simply Snackin is redefining how you snack.

About The Products (from their website)

Beef Sirloin Gourmet Dried Meat Snacks

Lean, natural beef sirloin is combined with the finest fruits and spices, then leisurely roasted and lightly smoked to produce an entirely different kind of high protein treat unlike conventional jerky or other meat snacks.

Chicken Breast Gourmet Dried Meat Snacks

A chicken jerky? Sounds impossible, but one bite and you’ll believe in this jerky-like meat snack. Tantalizing combinations of chicken breast, spices, fruit and cheese make these slow-roasted, nutritious snacks a taste sensation.

Assorted Gourmet Dried Meat Snacks

If you’re not sure which flavor suits you, or if you have several favorite flavor profiles, our snack assortments are your best bet for variety.

Gluten-Free Assorted Gourmet Dried Meat Snacks

Need no-gluten healthy snack options? We offer two gluten-free beef sirloin and two gluten-free chicken breast snacks that are high protein, low calorie solutions!

Our Review:

Although a bit reluctant to try these new snacks, my family and a few visiting friends bravely opened their mouths and took small nibbles of a few different flavors of these Simply Snackin products.  The first flavor we opened for this review was the Teryaki Chicken with Mangos and Papayas.

It tasted much better than we anticipated.  Each of us had a different reaction - some said there was a slight teryaki flavor, two of the kids thought it tasted like steak, and many of the adults liked the hint of sweetness and how juicy the meat is compared to many jerky type snacks.

We then bravely opened a few more flavors to try all with similar results ~ Chicken with Italian seasonings and Romano cheese has a mild flavor, Chicken with black bean salsa is spicy (too spicy for me, but my son loves it!) - just tastes hot to me.

Sirloin with cherries and blueberries is ok, and Sirloin with apples and cherries - and Sirloin with pineapples are both slightly sweet and juicy.

My personal favorites is the Chicken with mangos and papayas.  Although these Simply Snackin products are not yet available in stores, they can be found and ordered online. They have even more varieties than what I was sent for this review!  Even Gluten Free!

These Simply Snackin meat products are great for on-the-go, for work, family trips, school snacks, or just to keep on hand for those hungry-munchy emergencies!  To find out more check out their website ~ http://www.simplysnackin.com/

Groove to the Rhythm and Dance along with the kiddos ~ Review of Rhythm Bears CD

Groove Kid Nation continues its award-winning music education series with a third release Rhythm Bears. Producer Rodney Lee once again recruits top L.A. musicians and heads deep into the woods to create a soulful folk hoedown.

As the title suggests, Rhythm Bears is all about drawing kids into the music with rhythmic call and response games that will have them clapping, stomping, playing percussion, and vocalizing to the beat.

In addition, a band of groovy bears open childrens’ ears to a whole new set of musical instruments including harmonica, fiddle, acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, clarinet, kalimba, ukulele, and even didgeridoo. Each song features a new instrument, and the enclosed 10-page booklet features colorful illustrations of each Rhythm Bear.

My Review:

Oh My!  All three of my kids had smiles on their faces when this CD began playing.  My oldest said the music was "kinda cool" for a little kid's CD.  My two girls loved it and immediately began dancing to the beat of the drums and tempo.  My youngest has been listening to it off and on for weeks in her room and often wants it brought into the living room so we can "all dance together" as it plays.

This is a fun and cute set of music for younger children that teaches rhythm, music, and fun through the use of different instruments and musical selections.  Not only do the children enjoy listening and dancing along, but parents will enjoy the music right along with their kiddos.  I found myself tapping toes, moving feet and dancing along with the kids when this CD was playing.  It is definitely worth checking out!

My Review:

My daughter and I both have scars on our foreheads - mine I received as a child so it has been there for a LONG time (not telling how long though - lol).  My daughter received hers on the playground this past school-year - and it was our first introduction to stitches!

Since then of course the wound has turned into a light scar right at the corner of her eyebrow - not terribly noticable, but we both like putting Scar Serum on it hoping that over time it will fade even more.  I like that Scar Serum has natural ingredients and also that it is less expensive that the name brand scar cream in the stores.  We haven't had time to use it for the 4 to 6 months recommended so we will keep using it to see what happens over time!

I received free the item(s) mentioned in this post in exchange for my honest review using Tomoson.com. Regardless ~ All my reviews are my honest and personal opinion and are not influenced nor reviewed by the sponsor prior to posting. For more info, see my FTC disclosure or Review Policy.

GIVE Bracelets Review & Giveaway ~ Each bracelet purchased feeds a hungry child

Give Jewelry offered me a review of some of their beautiful bracelets.  I was amazed at the variety of pretty bracelets they offer on their site.  Not only are there friendship bracelets that girls would love to have and share, but bracelets for women, boys, men and many different styles and colors as well.

It was hard to choose exactly what would make the best choice not only for myself and my girls, but for this review as well.  I wanted to choose a variety so I could give an honest review of a few different bracelets that I thought my followers would like, but still get what I will wear as well.

So, first I let my 8 year old daughter, Allison choose a set of Friendship bracelets for her and her BFF.  This is the one she chose ~

Friendship bracelet in Blue -

Then I decided that I also should pick a bracelet or two for myself - and maybe one to give to a friend.  So I chose these three ~  Charm Bracelet in Lucky Lime Green, Charm Bracelet in Hibiscus Maroon, and After Midnight Freshwater Pearl bracelet.

Now my only problem is trying to decide which to keep and which to GIVE to my friend - lol.  I love the bracelet featured on GIVE Jewelry's logo and it is not available.  After the difficult decision of choosing the bracelets - my only problem was that I had to wait for them to arrive!  But it did not take very long for the box to show up on my doorstep!

Here is a little about GIVE from their website:

Bracelets with purpose.

Give Jewelry is a sustainable movement
to provide food for children in orphanages throughout Indonesia. The
vision is simple: every bracelet purchased directly benefits kids in need. So no matter what type of bracelet you choose; friendship, charm, leather, beaded, cuff or any of our other bracelets, you're really choosing to make a difference.

Friendship Bracelets, charm bracelet, leather bracelet, beaded bracelets, cuff bracelets and more...
With every bracelet you purchase, Give Jewelry provides one week of nutritious food (that's 21 meals!) for a child in need.

To find out more about Give Bracelets check out their website and social media sites here:

Website: www.givebracelets.com

Facebook: www.facebook.com/givejewelry

Twitter: https://twitter.com/GiveJewelryTeam

Blog: http://bracelets-blog.com/

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/GiveJewelry

As I opened the cloth envelopes that each bracelet was lovingly placed in, my excitement grew.  I couldn't wait to show my girls - thankfully Allison's BFF happened to be sleeping over so we could give her the new friendship bracelet right away!  My youngest, Lydia wanted in on the fun, so she is wearing the Hibiscus Maroon bracelet to show it off for this review.

The girls LOVE the friendship bracelets and each told me they don't plan to EVER take them off.  I did tell them I thought it might be a good idea not to shower with them on, but otherwise they are welcome to wear them any other time - lol.

As for my choices - well, they are very pretty, but I can not wear the green and maroon bracelets for very long.  They have adorable silver star-like-shaped beads in between the green/maroon beads that are a hard plastic-like material and actually feel a bit pokey on my wrist.  I can wear them for short amounts of time but then they become uncomfortable.  I only wish I had chosen this one instead (even though I'm not a fan of biking, it is so pretty!  I hope GIVE makes more like this one) -

I mentioned in an email about the "pokey" bracelets.  GIVE sent me new ones to try instead and I absolutely LOVE them - my youngest daughter helped me choose - we ended up with 2 'team' color bracelets and one beautiful plum colored charm bracelet ~  here are pictures:

Those these are not our school or team colors, she and I both love them - she wears the pink/purple/white one everyday and I often wear the blue/white/black one myself!  It is so soft and comfortable I sometimes forget I'm wearing it until someone comments on it!

Check out Give Bracelets for yourself and see all the wonderful styles available, you might be surprised as I was.  And now for the even more exciting part - a GIVEaway!  (yes, pun intended - lol)

Give Jewelry is offering a $50 code to one of my blog followers to spend on their own personal selection of Give Bracelets!  Here is how to enter - just fill out the GiveawayTools form provided - fill out as many entries as you like - the giveaway is open to US only 18+.  Giveaway starts 12am CST on 8/12 and ends at 11:59pm on 8/26

This is A quote at the bottom of GIVE Jewelry's website - it happens to be one of my favorites!

Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are
plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
(NLT)
