Finding Noah! Check it out in Theater's Oct. 8 #review

For over 2,000 years, man has been searching for the final resting place of
Noah's Ark.  Though there have been many attempts, few have been able to fully
explore the one place specifically noted in the Bible: Mount Ararat.  Located in
Eastern Turkey, Agri Dagh or "The Painful Mountain" is the tallest mountain in
the region and lies in the very center of a centuries old, geo-politically
unstable hot spot.  With constant threats of deadly rock slides, hidden
crevasses, and glacial ice falls, the Kurdish Rebel held mountain poses great
risk to any explorer, let alone those performing a thorough scientific
investigation.

Join director/producer Brent Baum and the FINDING NOAH film crew as
they follow an expedition of intrepid explorers on a perilous trek up to Mt.
Ararat's desolate summit.  There, using state of the art technology and
real-time satellite imagery, this team of archeologists, scientists and
professional mountaineers will begin a grid work of exploration unlike any
before, hoping to finally resolve the age-old question:  did Noah and his Ark
actually exist?

Shot in never-before filmed locations in the harshest of conditions, this
unprecedented feature-length documentary shows just how far men are willing to
go to discover the truth.  Narrated by Academy Award nominee Gary Sinise,
FINDING NOAH is more than a quest for answers, it is a testament of the
human spirit, where belief and the need for exploration transcend risk and
limitation.

Genre: Documentary

Rating: NR

Runtime: 116 minutes

Release Date (ONE NIGHT ONLY): October 8

Review:

If you like documentaries on Biblical themes or have been curious about the questions surrounding Noah and his Ark, then this would be an interesting film for you to view.  I personally am not a big fan of documentaries but found myself engaged by the technology used to search Mt Ararat for Noah's Ark.  It was not would I would call "fun" but more of an intriguing film to watch.  Find out more online at: http://www.findingnoah.com/

For Homeschool or just to Learn at a time convenient for you ~ Levels for Guitar online Guitar Lessons #Levelsforguitar

Do you have time to spend driving back and forth and paying an instructor just so you can learn how to play an instrument?  What about if you have children who also want to learn?  Or several family or friends?

I have found a way to make time in my day - right here at home to learn how to play my Guitar and can even have my kiddos use the lessons too!  And it is affordable, can be done in my own home and at my own pace, at a time that

works for me!

It is called Levels for Guitar.  The website has step by step instructions, videos and lessons for new beginners, level 2 beginners and intermediate players.  With an online metronome, online tuner and other great resources along with instructional videos, it is easy to learn at my own pace and at a time that is convenient for me.

I am impressed so far by the instructions and extras that the Levels for Guitar website has for a beginner player that does have some musical background.  I recommend this for homeschool families, adults wanting to learn and those with busy schedules or who don't have easy access to a teacher.

Or, if you are like me and already pay for weekly music lessons for the kiddos, I just can't add more lessons for myself - either finacially or time wise.  You can learn more about Levels for Guitar at www.levelsforguitar.com

Pizza and Music, what could be better? Come find out . . . and enter to WIN #pizzaranch #giveaway

One of my family's favorite local restaurants is Pizza Ranch.  And not only do we LOVE their pizza but they have, in our opinion the BEST fried chicken of any restaurants we have tried. From the moment we pull in the parking lot to the time we leave, we have a wonderful experience.  Not only is

the food great, but the family friendly atmosphere makes it a great place to take kids, visiting relatives or friends or just leave the kids at home and have a grownup night out.

This year in June 2015, Pizza Ranch released a CD called Living Hope.  It contains 12 unique songs

from some of Christian Music's most popular artists.  With amazing songs that my family all have enjoyed getting to listen to over the past week, this CD is only available at Pizza Ranch locations.

Most of the songs are brand-new and written exclusively for this CD around the theme of Hope. Artists include Colton Dixon, Francesca Batistelli, Ellie Holcomb, Sidewalk Prophets, Kevin Max, Bart Millard, Passion Band featuring Kristian Stanfill, Michael W. Smith, and Mark Schultz.

My girls and I have been dancing and singing along with this dynamic CD.  We almost left for a short (very short) trip to the store in the car without it and the girls would not let me leave the driveway until I had put the CD in the car stereo.

About The Living Hope CD project:

The CD will be available to purchase for $5 plus
tax exclusively in Pizza Ranch restaurants or for download at pizzaranch.com/livinghope through
August 31.

From Adrie Groeneweg, President & CEO of
Pizza Ranch, Inc.:  "This album has a very special meaning for Pizza Ranch.
Although Pizza Ranch is not in the music business, many things have been
happening, conversations have been taking place and doors have been opening for
this album. Through these events, I believe it was obvious that God has been
behind this for His specific purpose and putting it on our hearts to
collectively create this project.  As such, we call this our miracle album,
Living Hope."

Not familiar with Pizza Ranch?  Oh NO!

Check out what you are missing!

The Story behind Pizza Ranch:

Adrie Groeneweg had a dream that started in Hull, IA, in 1981, when he was just 19 years old.  It was simple.  Why does everyone have to drive out of town to get a pizza?  With just six specialty and single topping pizza recipes developed by Adrie's mother, Lorraine, Pizza Ranch was born.

Pizza Ranch's vision and mission is to glorify God by positively impacting the world and to give every guest a legendary experience.  They have 190+ locations across 13 states including Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nebraska, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado.

And if that doesn't whet your appetite I don't know what will.  Their pizza buffet is wonderful, but even better (and my kids' favorite feature) is that when you come in the door, before you even sit down they ask you if you have a special pizza you would like to see on the buffet.  Then, they make that pizza right away and even bring the first several slices right to your table!  Oh Yeah - how many pizza places have that type of personal service???

And do I really need to say it again?  The food is Great, the atmosphere wonderful and the food is great . . . LOL

So check out Pizza Ranch's locations for one near you and make sure to grab one of these unique and amazing CDs while you are there!  And eat some Chicken/Bacon/Ranch and crispy fried chicken for me too!

Splash Math Grades 1 through 5 APP Review - From Mommy's Perspective

Splash Math – Grades 1 – 5  app was created with kids and teachers in mind.  They integrate the Common Core Standards with a fun and visual way to practice those crucial math skills.

Splash math covers over 300 math concepts that range from first grade up through fifth grade.  You must create a parent account to play the app.  Once you have done that, then you can create

individual profiles for up to 2 children.  These profiles are customizable to your child’s level and allow you to track each child’s progress individually.

As your child plays each game their progress is charted and tracked and in the Parent’s Section you can see the data for that child.  They give you an “Overall Performance” score as well as graphs that break down their scores by topic and show you whether your child’s performance is improving over time.

The games are easy to play and the questions have multiple choice answers. One adorable feature is the cute little hippo that pops up in the corner to let them know if they have answered correctly.  If they have, then he gives them a sweet comment such as, “Well Done” or “Awesome”.  If they answer incorrectly, then the correct answer appears at the bottom of the screen and shows the child why their answer was wrong.  There is also a virtual “scratch pad” where kids can use their finger to write out the problem right on the screen if they can’t do the work in their heads.

This is a very comprehensive app that includes almost every possible math concept your child will encounter in elementary school.  I was impressed with the Parent’s Section and how well they track the performance of each child so that I can know what areas may need some extra attention.

My main two complaints with this app is that first, you can only create accounts for 3 children with the app. For families like mine with more than two children in elementary school it would be better if it allowed more profiles for families with more than 3 children.  And second, the price is quite expensive. Most families can't pay $99 for a single program.

Overall Splash Math - Grades 1-5 is a great program that helps aid children and parents in learning those critical Common Core Math skills that are oh so important in elementary school.

Plan, Implement and Track your gardening with GrowVeg! #review #gardenplanner #GIVEAWAY

I must admit that I was skeptical about using the GrowVeg Garden Planning tool for my gardening this year, and often do not utilize organizational programs as I should.  With GrowVeg I was pleasantly surprised by how easy to use it is and how much more organized my gardening has become.

The last couple of years the produce was not as good a yield as I was hoping and thought that maybe the reminders and helpful tools included with this program might help my

garden areas be better this year.

Grow Veg Garden Planner ReviewReview:

Grow veg has a lot of things going for it, but what I had to decide is whether or not it was truly worth paying $25 a year for. Keep in mind that Grow Veg does offer a free trial for 30 days to try the software out.

I was able to plan my garden and print out a copy of it and my plant dates for free. But I wasn't sure it worth continuing to pay for.  As I continued to use it this year for the first time I'm finding that in the long run it is a great program and has great potential for the years to come.  It is easy to use, has step by step guides, map and draw features for all shape and size garden areas, lots and lots of tools and features to aid in planning, planting, growning and rotating crops each year.

I must say that I will keep using this program to get the most out of my gardening and keep it easy to do, reminders of when to plant, water and feed as well as finding the best plants for each garden area each year.  From beginner to pro, GrowVeg is a great tool for any gardener regardless of experience level!

See what the experts at GrowVeg have to say about their product:

Our Garden Planner makes it easy to draw out your vegetable beds, add plants and move them around to get the perfect layout. Either metric units or feet and inches are supported and any shape of garden can be created.

Whether you use traditional row planting, raised beds or Square Foot Gardening the Garden Planner adapts to suit your gardening style.

The Garden Planner has over 200 vegetables, herbs and fruit and detailed growing information is just a click away. As you add vegetables the space they require is clearly shown by the coloured area around each plant and it calculates how many plants will fit into the area.

Crop rotation is easy as the Garden Planner warns you where you should avoid placing each vegetable based on what was in your previous years' plans.

The Garden Planner adapts to your own area using our database of over 5000 weather stations. Print your own personalised planting chart showing how many of each plant you require and when to sow, plant and harvest them.

Twice a month the Garden Planner sends email reminders of what needs planting from your garden plans.

The Garden Planner is both easy to use and flexible. Organise which crops will follow on from others using the succession planting feature and see how your garden will look for each month of the year. Customised varieties can be added with their own spacing and planting dates.

Like a garden journal, you can add notes to your plants and plans to track how they grow.

Want to try it FREE for yourself?  ENTER TO WIN a 1 year subscription.  Just enter by leaving me a comment about your garden(s) below!  Must be 18 or older to enter/win.  Contest Winner will be chosen using Random.org on Thursday July 23rd 11pm CST.

Review:

This is an absolutely adorable book.  Isabella learns some tough lessons when she has to "babysit" her puppy Baxter to keep him from bothering her mother.  She has to find creative ways to keep him out of trouble and from making a lot of messes.

At the end of the story, when "mom" goes to find them, she sees them both cleaning up.  What a great way to show little ones that cleaning up can be fun and rewarding.

A short and sweet story that would make a nice addition to a child's ebook collection!  Especially for only $0.99 on Amazon!

C.L.MurphyWhile new to the children’s book writing and illustrating scene, C.L. Murphy
(Cathy) has been doodling her way through life since she won a school
wide poster contest in the third grade. She’s had the pleasure of
working as an artist in residence, creating cartoons and painting murals

Book Tour/Review: An Uncommon Blue by R. C. Hancock ~ YA dystopian at it's finest

An Uncommon Blue blog tour

In Télesphore, the glowing color of a person’s palm determines their place in society, and touching hands with another mixes the colors permanently. When sixteen-year-old Bruno accidentally kills a royal soldier, he goes from favored to fugitive. Now Bruno's only chance at survival is to become someone else. That means a haircut, a change of wardrobe, and most important, getting rid of his once cherished Blue. Now he’s visiting

parts of town he never knew existed, and making friends with people he would've crossed the street to avoid only weeks ago. At the last minute, Bruno’s parents arrange a deal to clear his name and get his life back. All Bruno has to do is abandon those in the Red slums that look to him as a leader and let an innocent Green boy die in his place.

My Review:

What an intriguing story.  Bruno learns a hard lesson in this story.  One where people are really just people and not "classes" or "colors."  The true value of humanity, friendship and trust does not depend on wealth or the color of a person's palm.  It is a truly amazing story that this blogger, reviewer recommends for YA readers.

About the author:

RC (Really Cool) Hancock began his writing career with a story about a dead cat which his second grade teacher thought was brilliant. Convincing others of his literary genius has taken longer than expected, but along the road he has acquired a lovely wife, four entertaining ankle-biters (who, thankfully, look more like their mother), and a degree from BYU in Recreational Management & Youth Leadership (which means he’s really good at having fun.) An Uncommon Blue is his first novel.

Gift the Gift of Custom Fit this Holiday with Railtek Belts ~ #review @railtekbelts

BuckleBelt Rail Railtek Belts do not have holes.  Instead there is a "rail" hidden on the underside of the belt that allows for small, micro adjustments that help the belt fit perfectly.  It is easy to adjust, you just flip the little lever.

The stylish appearance of the Railtek belt makes any look clean, neat and ready for any occasion!

The Railtek Belt that was sent for this review is perfect for my husband.  As he is losing weight and in need

of a new belt - Railtek arrived just in time!  It is easy to customize the belt size to the needs of the wearer. No matter how long the belt is, it can be custom fit to the perfect size. To do this you detach the buckle from the belt and trim the desired amount off and then reattach the buckle (instructions here).

This belt micro-adjusts 1/4 an inch in either direction by simply flipping the lever on the bottom of the buckle (instructions here). If the lever seems to be stuck, relieve the pressure by pushing the belt into the buckle as though tightening it, then the lever will flip easier.

My husband loves this new belt.  He says it fits better than any he as previously worn.  I had planned to get him another for Christmas - it would even fit in his stocking!   He loves how easy it was to cut it to the size he wanted - he even left room for weight changes since the track/rails allow micro adjustments.  What a perfect gift for the man or young men in your family this Holiday!  Check out more about Railtek belts:

www.RailtekBelts.com

*PS - I would love to see Railtek come out with similar stylish belts for women as well!

GIVEAWAY

Want a chance to win a Railtek belt of your own?  Super!  Just enter below - must be 18 or older to enter/win.  US only please.  Prize will not arrive before Christmas. Prize will be sent out from sponsor - ML2R is not responsible for prizes.

Escape Through the Wilderness by Gary Rodrgiuez ~ YA Adventure #review #giveaway

Escape banner 2

Title:  Escape Through the Wilderness

Author: Gary Rodrgiuez

Genre: Tween/Young Adult
Christian Adventure

Paperback: 256 pages

Publisher: Tate Publishing (June
2014)

ISBN-13: 978-1-63268-201-7

About the book:

Escape Through the Wilderness coverSixteen-year-old
Savannah Evans walks with a slight limp thanks to a

gymnastics’ accident that
dashed her Olympic dreams, but didn’t stop her from attending an adventure camp
in Idaho. At Camp Arrowhead, she quickly befriends Jade Chang and Rico Cruz,
but Conner Swift taunts Savi because of her injury.

When the four are
teamed together for an overnight white-water river rafting adventure, Savi
refuses to get in the same raft with Conner. Unfortunately, the director will
not reassign her.

A fun expedition down
the river turns into a nightmare when their raft slams into a huge rock and
their adult guide disappears down the river.

Without their guide
and desperately trying to steer an out-of-control raft, they pass the “Last
Chance” marker and enter the larger rapids. With Jade pinned between the raft
and a rock, and Rico clinging to a lifeline, Savi must cut the raft free.

When the four drag
themselves out of the river, they’re bruised, beaten, lost, and twenty-five
miles from camp. Because of late-night campfire tales of Vexel, a vicious
animal that roams the nearby woods, Savi and the others are terrified.

Savi becomes the
unlikely leader who tries to guide the group back to Camp Arrowhead. Limited
supplies, injuries, and the constant threat of Vexel—who Savi fears is stalking
them, complicate the harrowing return trip.

Readers will enjoy
dramatic survival scenes and the group working together, solving problems, and
learning to overcome adversity.

Book excerpt:

The river turned
slightly to the right and then they saw the nightmare ahead. The turbulence was
like nothing they had seen before. The water appeared completely white and
rushed forward at a furious pace, breaking over and against rocks on both
sides. The only way through was a narrow slot between the rocks, which they
needed to hit just right, to make it through safely.

Watch
for rocks,” Doug warned with a shout. “And hold on!”

As they shot through
the tight gap between the rocks, water rose above the raft on both sides. They
flew through the first surge and then saw the river bend slightly left between
a new set of obstacles.

Paddle
left!” Doug yelled over the thunderous roar.

Hard
left!” he shouted again.

Rock!”
Savi screamed.

Water drenched them
from every direction. Conner removed his right hand from the paddle for a
second to wipe off his glasses.

Rocks
left!” Savi shouted.

My Review:

A well written story of character and determination in the face of danger and aggravating peers.  Savi doesn't appreciate being made fun of for her handicap and when forced to team up with the one boy she'd rather not ever have on a team it could mean her life.

The story shows the true struggles of teens and children in our world today who suffer from not only bullying but dealing with difficult situations that many times they may not be prepared for.  I loved each of the characters and how Savi and her friends handled many of the situations they were thrust in and how Savi stuck to her faith in God in spite of disbelief, ridicule and near death experiences.  She showed by example that we should not just believe and trust during good times but through all difficulties life throws at us.  The story kept my interest from beginning to end.  This is a great book for Middle Grade up to Adult readers.

Our Review:

What an amazing show!  This was most definitely one of my family's favorite events to date.  My children had never been to a live Circus and were all quite excited to get to go - yes, even my reserved 13 yr old showed some interest in attending!

The first excitement when we arrived was the All Access Pre-Show event - for an entire HOUR before the Circus was to begin - our family could go down on the main floor, visit some of the Circus animals, see and even be a part of different fun Circus events and meet some of the Stars of the Super Circus Heroes performance!

It was spectacular and so much fun.  The clowns were it top form, some of the performers gave small shows and even had children from the audience participate in most of the acts!  The animals were so adorable and fun to watch - one of the camels was trying to untie his fellow pony - my girls giggled so hard at the cute camel's antics!

About the All Access Party:

To truly become Super Circus Heroes, families are welcome to come to the arena floor an hour before show time to participate in the interactive super hero training camp at the All Access Pre-show Super Hero Party.

During this special event, the League of Super Circus Heroes will teach participants some of their super human skills such as juggling, wire walking and dance routines.

Participants will also have an opportunity to meet the performers, take pictures and get autographs. Super heroes in training can try on capes and other spectacular costumes and also get an up-close look at a menagerie of exotic animals including camels and elephants.

It was so much fun!  The kids could hardly take their eyes off the Pre show long enough to actually find our seats!  Not only did we get our 2 hours of Circus Fun, but another entire hour of pre-show amazement!

It is hard to choose just a few favorite moments to share for this review, and since I took over 300 photos!  Yes, and could have taken more if I weren't so caught up in some of the moments I forgot about my camera - I thought it would be best to just add a small slide show of a few of mine and my kiddos favorites of the night . . .

There were adorable little dogs riding on the back of ponies.  Ponies going under the legs of camels.  High flying circus acts, tight rope walkers, strong men, adorable elephants doing amazing feats, acrobatic limber women, humorous clowns, the cage of death with women standing in the middle of motorcycles and so much more.  And the whole night could not have been more perfect thanks to the amazing Ring Master and all the talented stars of the show.

Entertainment for the whole family - any age!

I have not been to a circus since I was about the age of my youngest child, and what I do remember was nothing compared to what we saw last night!  Ringling Bros is definitely "The GREATEST Show on Earth!"

*Want to see it for yourself?  Great!  You can still purchase tickets for the Peoria Shows today - Saturday as well as tomorrow's show on Sunday, October 19th!
