How can I make this Heavenly Recipe Healthier? Rich, Indulgent Ingredients but oh SO yummy
Ok, I'm a glutton for punishment as they say. I was looking around Pillsbury.com for a fun and "healthier" desert idea, when I stumbled upon this photo and recipe - and I have such a weakness for chocolatey, fudgey, yummy goodies. So NOT on my diet plan! So, I'm asking all my friends out there in the Cyber World to help me find a way to still enjoy this scruptious desert but make it healthier, and still retain the yummy taste! Any Ideas are Oh So Welcome!
Heavenly Hazelnut Torte with Mascarpone Cream
total time
1 hr 50 min
ingredients
7
servings
8
Ingredients
1 roll Pillsbury™ refrigerated sugar cookie dough
1 container (8 oz) mascarpone cheese
2/3 cup Jif® Chocolate Flavored Hazelnut Spread
3/4 cup coarsely chopped toasted hazelnuts
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
2 tablespoons granulated white or vanilla sugar
Steps
1
Heat
oven to 350°F. Let cookie dough and mascarpone cheese stand at room
temperature for 10 minutes to soften. In medium bowl, break up cookie
dough. Add 2 tablespoons of the mascarpone cheese, 1/3 cup of the
chocolate hazelnut spread and 1/2 cup of the hazelnuts. Mix with wooden
spoon until well blended.
2
Press
1/2 of the dough mixture in bottom of ungreased 9-inch springform pan.
In small microwavable bowl, microwave remaining 1/3 cup chocolate
hazelnut spread on High 10 seconds; stir until spreading consistency.
Spread over dough to within 1/4-inch of edge; sprinkle chocolate chips
over chocolate hazelnut spread. Place remaining dough between layers of
waxed paper. Press into 9-inch round. Peel off one layer of paper. Place
dough side down over chocolate chips. Remove waxed paper; press edges
to seal. Gently tap pan on counter to settle. Sprinkle with remaining
1/4 cup nuts; lightly press into dough.
3
Wrap
outside bottom and side of springform pan with foil to prevent leaking.
Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until puffed and edges are set (center will
jiggle slightly). Cool on cooling rack 30 to 40 minutes or until center
is set but still warm. Remove side of pan.
4
Meanwhile,
in medium bowl, beat whipping cream and sugar with electric mixer on
medium speed until soft peaks form. Beat in remaining mascarpone cheese
with electric mixer on low speed until combined. Refrigerate.
5
Serve wedges of warm torte with mascarpone cream.

High Seas Adventure for young readers ~ The Imagination Station: Captured on the High Seas #review
British
warships battle with American privateers in this high sea adventure.
Cousins Patrick and Beth have landed on the Royal Louis in the middle of
the Revolutionary War. Cannonballs fly and swords slash. They’re
captured! Now they face even more dangers. Will their new friend James
Forten be sold by the British into the West Indies slave trade? Or will
they all be
sentenced to the overcrowded prison ship floating near shore
where scores of prisoners die from filth and disease? Patrick and Beth
help plan a daring escape as they witness firsthand the deeds of brave
heroes who fought to make America the land of the free.
Review:
My kids love Adventures in Odyssey so I knew they would enjoy reading some of the Imagination Station books as well. My 9 year old daughter said this was just as good as AIO and she loved reading it. She has since asked me to get her more Imagination Station books to read and I will be happy to get them for her.
Clean adventure for children ages 6 and up. A great book for reading alone or to siblings as well.

In the Field of Grace by Tessa Afshar ~ A Must Read story of love and determination - #review
This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
In The Field of Grace
by Tessa Afshar
ABOUT THE BOOK
Destitute,
grief-stricken, and unwanted by the people of God, Ruth arrives in
Israel with nothing to recommend her but Naomi's, love. Her loftiest
hope is to provide enough food to save Naomi and herself from
starvation.
But God has other plans for her life. While everyone
considers Ruth an
outcast, she is astounded to find one of the most
honored men of Judah showing her favor. Long since a widower and
determined to stay that way, Boaz is irresistibly drawn to the foreign
woman with the haunted eyes. He tells himself he is only being kind to
his Cousin Naomi's chosen daughter when he goes out of his way to
protect her from harm, but his heart knows better.
Based on the biblical account of Ruth, In the Field of
Grace is the story of a love that ultimately changes the course of
Israel's destiny and the future of the whole world.
If you would like to read the first chapter of In The Field of Grace, go HERE.
My Review:
I absolutely LOVE Tessa Afshar's books. She is such a dynamic and talented author that her stories take me to places I never thought I could go. In The Field of Grace is the fourth book by Tessa Afshar that I have had the pleasure of Reading, and once again she has amazed me. Based on the biblical account of Ruth & Naomi, In the Field of
Grace is the story of a love that ultimately changes the course of
Israel's destiny and the future of the whole world.
The story is well written and easy to read. It is one that is very difficult to put down and step away from, and the story stays with you even after you have finished reading it. I have already told many people how wonderful this story, as well as the other three are and highly recommend it.
I love how believable it is and how it really could have happened just the way the author writes it. I loved being able to read about Ruth's background, how she and Naomi met and even more about Orpah and Naomi's two sons. The story took my imagination right to where they lived, how they lived and the difficulties and trials that were a normal part of that biblical time period. The emotions of the characters brought me to tears at times and laughter at other times.
This is a story of faith in the midst of tragedy, love and determination as well as God's faithfulness even when the reasons for everything are not clear. Ruth's faith in a God she does not know even when her mother in law, Naomi, has lost her faith is a wonderful lesson for any Christian. Ruth's story has always been one of my top favorites and I never thought I could love it more, but I do since reading In The Field of Grace. It is such a wonderful story that is well worth reading over and over, and sharing with friends and family!

Her conversion to Christianity in her twenties changed the course of her life forever. Tessa holds an MDiv from Yale University where she served as co-chair of the Evangelical Fellowship at the Divinity School. She has spent the last thirteen years in full-time Christian work.

Return to Love by Kathleen Shoop ~ book tour, #review ~ adult romance
Content Warning: Does contain some cursing and adult situations. This reviewer recommends for readers 18 and older.
April
and Hale Abercrombie’s love is tender and sweet. While he serves in Vietnam, their
marriage is marked by trust and the belief that they will grow old together
with a gaggle of grandchildren at their feet. But, their charmed marriage
changes in the face of losing
their newborn daughter.
On
leave from his tour, Hale can barely wait to hold his wife and her help her
heal. When he arrives, his embrace, his touch, and his love are as perfect as
April remembered. Their reunion is passionate and their physical connection is
strong and soothing. But, April’s heartache remains.
Hale
stumbles through his attempts to prove to April that their future will be rich
and full of wonder. His good-hearted, but take-charge approach causes her to
retreat. Even in grief, April can see Hale’s earnestness, yet she finds solace
in putting space between them. With a short time before Hale must return to war
will they see that real love endures in the face of adversity, that their
marriage can be strengthened even when it looks as though all is lost?
Set on the beaches of the Outer
Banks, Return to Love is the second book in the Endless Love series. Book
one, Home Again, was named a finalist in the 2014 Next Generation
Indie Book Awards.
My Review:
I did not realize when I signed up to review this book that there are some sexual situations - thankfully not too detailed like most adult romance books, yet it is there, and some cursing at times. So I must warn readers that it is not what I consider a clean book - so definitely for adult readers only.
To continue with my review. I was blessed with a copy of the first novella as well so I thought when I started reading Return to Love I would know what has already occurred with both April and Hale, and that I would like the second book as well. I expected the same quality of writing and content that the author used with Home Again.
I was confused from the beginning because of April's erratic behavior and thoughts. I knew this story was one of heartbreak, tragedy, and loss but it starts after the loss has already occurred and did not explain it until later into the book. The main focus of the story, of loss, love and triumph over tragedy is one that I often enjoy reading, but I must say I was disappointed with this one and due to the sex and cursing and erratic behavior of the main characters through most of the book. I would not recommend it to those who prefer clean romance.
Book Excerpt:
Kill Devil Hills, North
Carolina,
Autumn 1970
Hale’s
lungs were tight as he gripped his duffel in one hand and held his uniform over
his shoulder with the other. He flew up the steps of the small fishing cottage
that his wife was renting from the Shelby
family and arrived on the wide porch. He had imagined the moment he’d see her
so many times that he felt like he was performing a play. He dropped the duffel
right there and knocked on the screen door. Why
was he knocking? She knew he was
coming. He threw the door open and walked into the small entry. It opened
into the family room. He wiped his feet while he scanned the space. “April!”
His
heart beat fast and heavy. Yes, he was home under difficult circumstances.
Hale’s wife was having difficulty coping with the stillbirth of their daughter.
He was worried for her and knew if his skipper granted hardship leave that
things must be bad. Yet he was determined, sure as he had finally arrived at
the Outer Banks, he was confident that he could make her well. He just needed
to see her, to hold her, to tell her everything was going to be okay.
The
Guess Who’s “No Sugar Tonight” was playing on the radio. The tune brought a
smile to his face. He rushed down the hallway and poked his head into two
bedrooms and a bathroom before finding the room April had been using. He tucked
his naval uniform into the closet, went back to the kitchen, and turned off the
radio, straining to hear any noise that might signal April’s location. He went
back outside, inhaling the salty air.
Where was she? He leapt off the porch and
crossed the gravelly lane called Beach
Road stepping onto the sand, craning his neck to
catch a glimpse of her. A seagull clipped Hale’s head as it landed off to the
side then flipped a whitefish into its mouth. As far as he could see, the beach
was empty, yet he thought he should walk it, search for April. He didn’t know
which direction she would have walked, but he started out anyway.
Heading
south, a flock of black birds escorted him from above. Scores of them moved
together like one great wing flapping in the wind. The whoosh of their
collective descent was punctuated by their coarse, throaty screams.
The
sand worked into Hale’s shoes, each particle stabbing at the skin below his
ankles. He pushed one shoe off and then the other, leaving them near a
smattering of driftwood that had been pushed ashore by high tide. The birds
dropped, their calls growing louder, drowning out the surf. One by one the
black skimmers rained from the sky like bombs, their red beaks bright against
the gray sky that had crept in with Hale’s arrival. Some of the birds landed in
the shoals and poked and prodded at the sand.
He
came upon the largest cluster of birds, the beige sand peeking out in small
patches among the blackness, and his eye went to a different form, a woman
sitting rod straight, motionless in the center of the black avian shroud. Her
blonde hair whipped in the wind like the sea grass at his feet. Hale stopped.
His heart thumped. April. He willed himself to breathe, to move toward her.
He’d never seen such a sight, the way she seemed partly born of the sand,
partly able to sprout wings and fly away.
“April!”
he said, waving even though her back was to him.
She
did not respond. He called again, his words turned back to him by the stiff
ocean gales. He jogged toward her, weaving in between napping skimmers, hopping
over those that were too busy eating to move out of his way.
When
he had nearly reached April, he halted again. He suddenly felt nervous about
his excitement; he felt her sadness as though they shared the same soul. He’d
never seen such a stunning sight in his life. Her elegance was apparent even
sitting on a beach, in the middle of birds. She turned her head slightly, her
profile facing him. His stomach flipped. Oh
my God, is she beautiful. The wind tossed her hair, making her appear as
though she were posing for a magazine shoot.
Even
from a distance, even from the side, he thought he could see the sparkle of her
blue eyes. The way they were set, wide on her face, made it seem as though he
saw something slightly different every time he looked at her, something more,
something alluring, hypnotizing. Those
eyes.
There
was no woman more captivating, he was sure. Or more lonely. Her sadness seemed
to leap over the sand to him, to well up from the soles of his feet, filling
him, squeezing the breath from his suddenly heavy lungs. If he felt this, then
her pain must be far greater. Her emptiness more profound. He’d helped her
create life, but he hadn’t been there when it ended.

from a distance, even from the side, he thought he could see the sparkle of her

Contoured Sleep Mask Set ~ #review
Contoured & Comfortable Sleep Mask, Ear Plugs & Carry Case from Natural Revolution, Ltd.
This eye mask will help you sleep better at night by blocking out the light that can often keep you awake.
My Reivew:
I did not really care for this particular sleep mask. It did not fully block out the light under my eyes as other sleep masks do. Although comfortable to wear it just didnt really do the full job I expected, and the ear plugs are the cheap foamy ones that can be purchased at any store. I do like that it comes with a carry case which comes in handy when travelling and makes it easier to find the ear plugs and mask when needed.

A Nation under Judgment by Richard Capriola ~ AUTHOR GUEST POST ~ #review #guestpost
Author Guest Post:
A
Biblical Definition of Wisdom
As
a Christian parent I must admit I didn’t give much thought to wisdom while
raising my son. However, seven years ago I began writing what was intended to
be a little book about wisdom. The first task was to define wisdom and that
eventually led to the creation of A Nation Under Judgment.
How do you define wisdom? For some it’s measured by a
person’s level of knowledge and learning
or by one’s level of education.
Dictionaries define wisdom as philosophic and scientific learning. Other
definitions of wisdom include sound judgment, good insight, or common sense.
Native Americans believe wisdom is earned only after living a long life that
brings learning and experience.
These definitions have merit, but they fall short of a
biblical definition of wisdom. Biblical wisdom can be defined as the ability to see things from God’s point
of view. As Christians, our wisdom grows when we understand and accept
God’s point of view. The same is true of nations; they show wisdom when they
align their policies with God’s view.
Without wisdom people can find themselves in trouble and
countries risk disaster. The further a nation strays from God’s point of view,
the closer it comes to being a nation under judgment.
We live in a nation that prides itself on being “one
nation under God.” We ask for God’s blessing in songs like “God Bless America”
by Irving Berlin. Our Supreme Court opens every session with “God save the
United States and this Honorable Court.” The president and other politicians
pandering for our votes give speeches that end with “God bless America.”
But what does it mean to be “one nation under God?” Have
the words become merely a patriotic slogan? Do they have value only in times of
national crises, when we feel threatened? Are we a nation asking for God’s protection
and blessings while turning away from His point of view?
As a nation “under God” do we see things from God’s point
of view when shaping national policies? Or have we lost our wisdom as a nation?
When we create polices on hunger,
homelessness, poverty, protecting the environment and marriage, are we
following God’s point of view - or a political agenda? What does it say about
our values when one of every fifty children lacks sufficient food, in a nation
that wastes 40 percent of its food? These are important questions that must be
asked if we value being a nation “under God” because the answers may point to a
nation moving away from God’s point of view and losing its wisdom.
Our Founding Fathers knew that we could not indefinitely
exist apart from God’s point of view. George Mason warned that providence would
punish national sins with national calamities. Thomas Jefferson said “I tremble
for my country when I reflect that God is just and that his justice cannot
sleep forever.” These great men understood that our nation’s future rests on
its commitment to live by the words “one nation under God” and that we must
create national polices that reflect His point of view rather than policies
that conform to a political agenda.
Have we lost our wisdom as a nation – our ability to see
things from God’s point of view? Ultimately the answer to that question will
determine if we are headed toward being a nation under judgment.
What does it mean to
be One Nation Under God? Our Founding Fathers believed it was more than a
political slogan. Have we strayed from their vision? A Nation Under Judgment
focuses on issues currently facing our nation including hunger, poverty, the
environment and marriage. These and other issues are reviewed from both a
Scriptural point of view and a social policy point of view. Readers are
empowered to consider whether our nation is moving away from being One Nation
Under God.
Review:
A dynamic look at what is means to truly be "One Nation Under God." This is a good book to read if you want to really dig deep into the morals our country was founded upon and think through today's world view and what it means in relation to our Christian point of view.
