Little Pim strikes again - Spanish, Japanese, and so much more - Review & Giveaway ~ Holiday Gift Guide 2013

Some of you know Little Pim. They're a foreign language learning company that
introduces children between the ages of 0 and 5 to a foreign language using
DVDs, music CDs, flashcards, and books.

Little Pim was designed around the latest
scientific research regarding language acquisition and brain
development. The method combines the work  of  leading neuroscientist
Dr. April Benasich, and Julia’s own experience as a language teacher,
filmmaker and mother.

Children get very attached to the lovable cartoon panda bear, Little
Pim, who is the series “teacher.” He invites young viewers to join him
in his playful antics as they learn the language along with real
children enjoying everyday activities, such as playing, eating, waking and napping.

The entire video series is spoken by native speakers,
and words are presented and repeated at regular intervals. Each Little
Pim DVD focuses on sixty words and phrases typically acquired in a
toddler’s primary language, providing the essential building blocks for
language acquisition.

Little Pim is designed and paced for developing minds.

Young children respond enthusiastically to Little Pim’s format, a
combination of animation and live action. Babies respond to black and
white, and therefore the panda captures the attention of even the
youngest viewers. Each video deals with a theme relevant to young kids,
and is segmented into 5-minute episodes to accommodate a young child’s
attention span and encourage pausing for parent interaction. Simple
sentences are broken down into easy-to-understand parts, and reinforced
through repetition.

My Review:

For this review I chose the Spanish DVD from Little Pim. We have previously reviewed the Japanese DVD

and my two girls have already learned quite a bit from it.  My older daughter took notes, memorized some words and was able to impress her best friend over the summer when they visited from Japan.

Now, we decided to check out the Spanish DVD so I could brush up on my High School Spanish - It has been more years than I care to admit since I took Spanish in High School but I still remember some.

I had the opportunity recently to try to understand and converse with someone who speaks mostly Spanish with a little English - It was easier since I have been watching the Spanish DVD with my youngest from Little Pim.

The DVD is cute, and the panda is adorable and I love the Option of adding Subtitles (so I can cheat when  necessary - lol)  The complete Immersion method makes it so that the child (and parent) watching the DVD hear the same word or phrase repeated over and over in the language they are trying to learn - it helps when I encourage my daughter to repeat the words or phrases with the Panda on the screen.

If you want to have your child learn a second language, and are willing to start them young - then Little Pim does have great quality products to assist with that.

I See Me in everything I do - Personalized Children's Books & Gifts Review & GIVEAWAY - Holiday Gift Guide 2013

What is something that you could surprise your children with this Christmas?  How about a book, ebook, lunchbox or placemat personalized just for him or her?

A book or ebook all about your child ~ with family members, friends and favorites all through the story.  A personalized book just for your child about your child.

For younger children, start with My Very Own Name - an educational book that teaches young children how to recognize the letters that spell their name - and they can color it too!  Just like this one I had done for my little 3 year old niece - her name is VIOLET - so the whole story is about her, with her name spelled out - a different letter on each page, and a fun rhyme and adorable animals that go

along with each letter.  What a fun and unique way to learn the letters to spell her name - AND animals and objects that start with each of those letters!

More about these personalized coloring books:

Your child will love to color the animals that bring
letters one by one to spell out his or her first name, in this highly
personalized coloring and activity book. The moose brings the M, the
elephant brings the E, and so on. This fun-filled, educational coloring
book helps your child learn to recognize letters and spell his or her
first name, and it includes personalized games and mazes to enrich the
coloring experience.

As an added personal touch, this high
quality coloring book includes a printed dedication from the sender. It
has a soft cover with premium white paper that provides great results
with crayons, watercolors, pastels and pencils. Made in the USA and
written by Maia Haag.

Next, you could choose a personalized lunch box for your school age children - like this one I had done for my youngest Lydia - She felt left out since her older siblings attend school all day and often take their lunches in their own lunch boxes - so for Lydia - she has one just for her alone -

It is so cute with Butterflies and flowers all over and her name on every side - to top it all off, there is a magnetic chalkboard inside the top that is perfect for adding notes, reminders or a fun message from Mom or Dad!  What a fun surprise to find a fun note when she has her lunch break during the school day next year!

More about these lunchboxes:

Our personalized lunch boxes make your child feel special
every day! Each one of our lunch boxes features your child’s name on
multiple sides. On the inside lid, there’s a chalkboard where you can
write a personalized note to your child each morning!

Safe for
storing food, our lunch boxes are made of tin and contain no lead.
They’re also great for storing toys and other treasures!

With so many books, puzzles, and gifts to choose from - it is hard to purchase just one!  AND, if you sign up for the ISeeMe.com Newsletter - you can get 10% off your purchase!

Finally - can't forget the coming Christmas Gift for my youngest - I could not get a photo of her with it since it will be for her for Christmas but you get a sneak peek of what Santa has sent her this year -

Santa himself sent her a personalized book about an adorable Christmas Bear - with the adorable bear to play with an a letter from Santa too! Written just for her by Santa himself - what young child wouldn't love
having Santa leave her a letter, a personalized book and adorable bear
under the tree.  I can't wait to see the joy on her face when she sees that Santa left her a letter!  And inside this story - all the Stockings hanging by the fire have the names of our family members (even our precious dog)!  Such a cute idea - I love it!

Random Acts of Kindness $25 Amazon Giveaway ~ Give of yourself then enter for a chance to win.

During the Holiday Season, more people give of their time, money and themselves than any other time of the year.  My family has special traditions each Christmas Season - we choose a donation - this year was Operation Christmas Child - and let each of the children choose gifts, items and toys to "give" to a child near each of their ages.  They help choose, wrap and give the gifts and as we are doing this, my husband and I spend time discussing how we try to help those who are in need - or have less that we do.

Helping others is a big part of our family life - and we want our children to continue giving to others as they grow, hopefully choosing to do so on their own . . . So, when my friend over at Stuff of Success mentioned that she was doing a Random Acts of Kindness Giveaway - I jumped at the chance to help her spread the message and giveaway to my followers as well -

In turn, I am asking that if you Enter this Giveaway - Please also Share it on your social media so that others may enter as well and spread around the Random Acts of Kindness!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

December 31st is my (stuff of success) birthday and last year I did this "project" and would love to do it again this year.

I decided to offer a $25 Amazon Gift Card for a giveaway.  This giveaway will be different than any other, so PLEASE - enter, and enter daily!  There is no sponsor - just me trying to make the world a better place.

From December 5th through December 31st I am asking you each to do one - just one - random act of kindness for someone.  Your one and only daily entry is just to confirm completion of one Random Act of Kindness for the day!

Yes, the impetus for this giveaway is my birthday.  But it is also the holiday season and there are so many people that just want to feel appreciated, needed and acknowledged.  I am sure you see it every day - just like me.  Here is your chance to do something about it.

Remember the starfish?  Make a difference!

Lets make December 2013 a better time!

(Ideas/Suggestions can be found below Giveaway Tool)

Just do some random act of kindness (big or small)
- Confirm your one and only entry for the day. There is no requirement to
Like/Follow/Tweet/Retweet

anything. This is just my way of trying to make
December 2013 a better place for people who need help! Please join me - the
more we share this the greater the impact. Can you imagine if even 10 people
make an effort to do a Random Act of Kindness, each day, for 26 days!? All the
lives we can touch? What about if 1000 people do it? If you think you can't
make a difference ( and we absolutely all can) - this is your opportunity.

That's it.  Just love your neighbor, people in need, friends etc... for one month, every single day!  We can make a difference - and a huge one if we all put our hearts in it!

The Stuff of Success

Enter the Giveaway Tool every day!

*****************************************

And lastly-for anyone who donates to The Stuff of Success (gift to:

athenanagel at ct dot metrocast dot net

via PayPal) in the month of December - I will donate all of it to "Love 4 Laura" a K9 Rescue organization dedicated to saving the lives of dogs.  You can read about Laura here - https://www.facebook.com/love4laura .

This cause is extremely important to me.  Please consider donating even the smallest amount when you prepare to purchase your next cup of coffee or soft drink.  Last year we donated to a local food bank.  This year the "cause" my daughter and I have selected is Laura.  So far we have already sent a box of toys.  Next we wish to send them blankets so badly needed for the winter months.

My Review:

My kids have always loved music and I personally as a parent have found that it is easier for children (and adults) to learn and retain information if it is put in the form of a song or rhyme.  With Rock N Learn, music is used in a fun and fantastic way to teach children educational concepts.  In this DVD - Alphabet Letter Sounds are put to music to help children learn their sounds while having fun with music.

My girls both loved watching this DVD and my youngest has been improving at school with letter sound and letter recognition since we started watching this DVD together.  I love how excited she gets when it is time to play the Rock N Learn Letter Sounds DVD - I'm planning to get the States & Capitals CD & book set for my older two - I remember how hard it was for me to learn my States and Capitals as a kid, and I think that Rock N Learn can  help them do much better than I did.

Now for some Giveaway Fun -

I will be giving away 2 copies of the Rock N Learn Letter Sounds DVD

Easy entries - Daily entry options - Must be 18 or older and live in US to win.

Giveaway will run from 12/5 -  12/15

Winner will be notified via email - and will have 48 hours to reply and claim prize - if no reply another winner will be chosen at random.

Nativity Story App Review ~ Children can enjoy the Story of the Nativity on ipad or iphone

The Nativity Story App

Where will the Baby Jesus be born?  At the Market? At a restaurant? At the Inn?

Readers of this book app can follow Joseph and Mary on their search for a place to stay in Bethlehem.

Along the way they encounter a variety of colorful local people and animals.

Great for kids 2-10

Watch a
video on The Nativity Story App:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtBhge8DWFA

Why Kids Love This
App

  • It's like a vintage pop-up book, with classic
    woodcut-style illustrations

  • By tapping and swiping, kids can help Joseph and
Mary find a place to stay.

  • Knock on doors... Pull on the rope... Ring the
bell... Open windows... Make people talk...

  • Create music! Help a band of angels play their
    instruments.

  • Lots of characters to get to know: Innkeeper,
Merchant, Shepherds, Chef, A Band of Actors, Neighbourhood Children, Mary's
Donkey, Farm Animals and of course... Angels!

  • Funny sound effects!

Why Parents & Grandparents Love
This App

  • Nostalgia. It feels like a classic pop-up book,
bringing back memories for parents and grandparents.

  • Optional Narration: Listen to the old-timey
narrator tell the story, or read the story yourself.

  • EXTRA Feature: After the story, explore the
original Bible text that tells the Nativity Story.

  • Amazing Visual Quality: Support for retina
    display

How is This Christmas App
Different?

  • Production Values - It is
a work of art: a rich visual and sound experience.

  • Interactive - We use the
touch technology and animation to engage the reader in the story in an
    enchanting and educational way.

  • Age approach - The
classic Bible story is retold here with an original and creative approach that
appeals to young kids as well as adults.

  • Original - The app is
designed like a vintage popup book and includes unique features such as
interacting with a band of angels and playing instruments like trumpet and harp.

Our Review:

This is a fun interactive app for kids to show the Nativity Story and help them see what Christmas is all about.  Children can follow along in the story as Mary & Joseph travel by donkey to find a place to stay so Mary can have her baby.  When all the rooms are full, what are they going to do?

Although the interactive app is fun for kids of all ages, it is not biblically correct, so as long as parents or grandparents don't expect the story to be told as the Scriptures tell it, this is a fun app for kids.  My youngest loves moving the donkey around on the page, nodding it's head, opening doors and windows and hearing the conversations of the people on each "page" of the "book."  The fun interactions are great for children to help keep their attention and show how fun it can be to read books even ebooks.

I love that there are two choices - read it yourself - or "read to me" for children who can not yet read it themselves.  Such a great app for this Holiday Season.

And Lydia says "I love this story, it is so much fun and the donkey moves all around.  It's great for kids like me."

Currently this app is priced at:

For the iPad
($3.99)

The Nativity Story - Popup DELUXE
Edition https://itunes.apple.com/app/id579941573

For the iPhone
($1.99)

Edition https://itunes.apple.com/app/id681638132

Presto Photo - the online place for your photo book, cards and calendar needs ~ Review on Mom Loves 2 Read

I ordered two different products for this review from PrestoPhoto.com!  I found that they have a pretty good selection of photo books, cards and products for everyday or holiday needs.

The process is fairly easy.   First step is to upload whatever photos you plan to use in your book.  Then drag and drop them into the available photo slots, Design the type of cover you want, then preview the finished product and order.

My only complaint is that many of my photos (some taken by professional photographers) are digitally grainy when printed though they did not look that way on the preview of my book and calendar.  I expected the few photos that were older and taken with a 6mp camera to be a bit blurry or grainy but not the newer or professional ones so it was a bit of a disappointment.  Thankfully I ordered the Calendar - which is an 11 x 8.5 size for myself - overall it is pretty good though and one that I will keep for years to come.

Surprisingly the Photo Book I purchased for a gift turned out quite well - a 9 x 7 size book, it is a great keepsake gift for my children's grandparents!  I can't wait to see their reaction when they open it Christmas Morning!  And I loved how easy it was to add custom wording to the front and back of the album.  Custom text can be added to any photo page and be put anywhere on the page you want.

These two items were very easy to make and a simple process.  It took less time than a more customized photo book (which is also available to make) for me and less expensive than many other sites I've tried in the past - the calendar (which is not an actual calendar - just photos by my choice) was only $21.79 and has 42 pages.

The photo book was only $12.49 and has 30 pages.

So quite reasonable compared to many other photo book websites. Shipping was only $5.23 for both items and arrived within 5 days of my order.  Very fast shipping and arrived safely packaged so the products would not be damaged during shipment.

Overall a great experience for this Mom and Blogger.  I found this to be a great way to preserve family vacation photos, kids around the house snapshots and make fun gifts for family and friends - to find out more . . .
