My Perfect Gift $100 Giftcard Giveaway on Mom Loves 2 Read

Giveaway has ended

Review of The Human Body Detectives ~ Let your kids explore the human body in a most unique and fun way!

The
Human Body Detectives set of stories are about two young “Human Body Detectives,” Merrin and
Pearl, who are able to use their imaginations to magically enter the different systems in the body of a family member to find a way to solve health
mysteries. Through action packed educational adventures, readers learn
how the various systems work and which foods best fuel each system.

I was sent the first three books in pdf ebook form from the author for me to review.  I have read through each one several times and I just love them!  My kids are also enjoying reading them and learning not only about the different parts of the human body, but also about different healthy foods and ways to keep their bodies healthy.  And of course they love the colorful pictures that go with each story.

Here is a bit more about these books:

Battle With Bugs

~ Learn about the Immune System

Merrin
and Pearl’s cousin Max is sick, threatening everyone’s Mexican
holiday.  This time the girls find themselves in Max’s body, witnessing
first hand the immune system in action. They befriend a white blood cell
warrior who leads them into battle against the offending bacteria. -

The Lucky Escape

~ Learn about the digestive system
Mom’s Choice Award Winner!

Merrin and Pearl’s little brother Robbie has swallowed a penny.  Through
magic and imagination, the girls find themselves on an adventure
through his digestive system where they must grab the penny to help him
and escape his poopy diaper.

*My older kids thought this one was hillarious!

A Heart Pumping Adventure

~ Learn about the circulatory system

During breakfast with her dad, Merrin is concerned about his eating
habits and his heart. A few moments later, she and Pearl are riding on a
red, pillowy, donut–shaped boat, floating on a red–colored sea and
surrounded by hundreds of these grape–like things! Where are the girls
and where are they headed?

Each of the books in this Human Body Detectives series is perfect for children to read and learn, while enjoying a fun adventure with their favorite detective duo.  I know the author is working on more books in this series and I can't wait to share each one with you.  Check them out on Amazon - they start at only $.99!  An amazing deal for such great books.

A Good-Lookin' Man by Marica Lynn McClure ~ Blog Tour & $50 GIVEAWAY

I have a Clean Romance to introduce you to today.  It is by author Marcia Lynn McClure.  She has written this novella of a "love at first sight" type situation.  I have not read this book personally but the tour host has said it is a good clean read.  From the title, I'm suspecting it is good for women readers, lol

Check it out!

Goodlookin Man copy

A Good-Lookin' Man by Marcia Lynn McClure (novella)

goodlookin

However, in an instant—in less than a breath or the bat of an eyelid—the elusive pepper spray hiding somewhere in her purse was all but forgotten. For standing before her—right there before her, not three feet away—was the best-looking, most gorgeous, handsomest man she had ever seen in all her life!

“No, seriously,” she thought out loud with lingering bewilderment at how perfectly stunning the man standing before her was, wearing a worn pair of Levi’s, dusty cowboy boots, and a short-sleeved, plaid-print, snap-up shirt that hung open, revealing a bronzed, perfectly sculpted torso that was simply a mass of muscles. She was so unsettled by the man’s appearance that she wasn’t sure whether she was whispering aloud to herself or her car.

Either way, the man asked,

“Beg your pardon, ma’am?”

“Oh…oh, nothing,” Fairlee said as she began rummaging in her purse again. But the man’s presence and appearance had entirely rattled her. As her awe-inspired brain obviously quit sending out instructions to the rest of her body, Fairlee felt her purse slip from her hands—watched in humiliated dismay as its contents tumbled out and scattered over the shoulder of the road.

My Review:

When I was offered a chance to review this book through Christian Fiction Blog Alliance, I was excited.  I love western romances that have a great story, historical significance, as well as unexpected twists and turns.  This book does not disappoint.  Each woman's experience along the way, and how they each deal with the unexpected was well-written and believable.

The overall story is about the four women, two sisters, one a widow with a young son; their two cousins,
and their grandfather.  They travel in a wagon train to Texas to try to make a new life for themselves.  The grandfather has some of his hired men accompany them which of course adds to the romantic and not so romantic moments in the story.

The book starts out a bit slowly, then picks up the pace after the first few chapters.  Though it was mostly predictable, Threads of Change is an enjoyable story that is well worth reading.  I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

My Review:

My girls are really enjoying reading some of the bilingual ebooks that come with this set.  Lydia, my 5 year old, loves Biligual Benny and the Lost Cat best.  She enjoys the story and repeating many of the words and phrases in spanish after we have read through the book.  I like how easy it is to use.  Although I personally prefer print books and don't like feeling tied to my computer, I must admit that the pdf ebooks and lessons in this set are simple to use, fun to read and can also be read on iPad or iPad mini.

I love the read aloud option since my 5 year old does not read many words yet.  She loves to sit and listen to the story read as she follows along page by page on mommy's computer.  She also loves playing the games at the end of the books.

This is a nice way to begin foreign language learning at a young age.  Although we have not been using this program very long, she already knows many of the colors and several other words in spanish, and recognizes even more words when she hears them.

This is a nice starter set for someone who would like to introduce Spanish to their young children.

You can get the complete program on Amazon.com - http://www.amazon.com/BookLingual-Complete-Spanish-Kids-Digital/dp/B00BZYIJOO/

Keeper of Reign Book Excerpt & Giveaway on Mom Loves 2 Read

Keeper of Reign copy

Welcome to Mom Loves 2 Read - today I have a great book to spotlight for you. - I have not yet read it myself, but it sounds like an interesting fantasy adventure - check it out then feel free to enter the author sponsored giveaway!

keeper

Keeper of Reign

Books written in blood. Most are lost, their Keepers with them. A curse that befell a people. A Kingdom with no King. Life couldn’t get more harrowing for the Elfies, a blend of Elves and Fairies. Or for sixteen-year-old Jules Blaze. Or could it?
For Jules, the heir of a Keeper, no less, suspects his family hides a forgotten secret. It was bad enough that his people, the Elfies of Reign, triggered a curse which reduced the entire inhabitants to a mere inch centuries ago. All because of one Keeper who failed his purpose. Even the King’s Ancient Books, did not help ward off that anathema.
Now, Gehzurolle, the evil lord, and his armies of Scorpents, seem bent on destroying Jules and his family. Why? Gehzurolle’s agents hunt for Jules as he journeys into enemy land to find the truth. Truth that could save him and his family, and possibly even reverse the age-long curse. Provided Jules doesn't get himself killed first.

Amazon * Barnes & Noble

Excerpt:

THE WARNING GRANDPA gave had
frightened Jules then, as it did now.

“Jules, the days are coming,”
Grandpa Leroy had said, that bleak day as they sat before the fireplace. “One
day, Gehzurolle will intensify his efforts against us. Beware of that day.”

Picking up his Ancient Book,
Grandpa read, “Suspecting the lives of the now insignificant Fairy Elves will
be restored to the former glories they once enjoyed, the Scorpents and their
leader, Gehzurolle, the Lord of Shadows, will be driven to distraction. After
many failed attempts to annihilate the Race throughout the centuries,
Gehzurolle will scheme to extinguish every inhabitant of the land because
finally a Keeper has invited him into our Kingdom. He will spare no Elfie. Not
even those who work for him.’”

“But which Keeper would do
something like that?”

“One who’s desperate. When you
see the signs, Jules, you must flee. You and everyone in our family.
Immediately!”

“But why, Grandpa?”

“Because it means he’s close to
succeeding. He will seek us Keeper families first because without the Keepers
and our Books our Kingdom cannot survive. I entrust this knowledge to you for
you will take over from your mother as Keeper of the Book, just as she’d taken
over from me.” His grandfather’s gentle blue eyes locked with Jules’s own green
ones.

“But how will I know when this
will happen?”

“The Ancient Book says thieves
will come to steal—so beware. But these are no ordinary burglars, Jules. They
will destroy everything in their path. Whatever happens they mustn’t get our
Book.”

Greystone Valley by Charlie Brooks ~ Middle Grade Review on Mom Loves 2 Read

Greystone Valley is a land of wizards, dragons, and warriors... and one
young girl who ends up there quite by accident when her idle wish is
granted.

Sarah discovers that not everything in the valley is as magic
as she might've wished - especially the nearly illiterate wizard, the
mouse-sized dragon, and the warrior who can't stand the sight of blood.

Being hunted isn't helping, either.

Will Sarah survive this new life of
hers, and can she make it home? And, more importantly, will she ever be
the same again?

My Review:

I absolutely LOVE this book.  I wish I had it in print!  This story is well-written, captured my imagination and is full of adventure, danger, magic and friendship.  I highly recommend this to middle grade readers who love adventure and mystery that keeps the reader guessing til the very end.  With intriguing twists and turns this story of friendship, determination and personal growth will capture the imagination of even the most skeptical reader.

The characters are well-developed. The strained relationship between Sarah and her mother is realistic, and explains the reasons for her constant fantasizing well.  Her desire to escape leads to her ultimate adventure and her learning some valuable lessons along the way.  The emotional roller coaster that Sarah and her new-found friends experience kept my interest from start to finish. I can't wait to see what the author comes up with next.  Hopefully there will be another adventure in Greystone Valley for Sarah real soon.

Right now, Greystone Valley is only $.99 on Amazon.com!

About the Author:

Charlie

literature at a young age. His other published novels include the
fantasy epic Shadowslayers and the sci-fi thriller Reality Check.
He is a two-time quarterfinalist in the Amazon.com Breakthrough Novel
Awards. His short story “Fantasy as you Like It” won the 2006 Chaffin
Award for Fiction, and his tale “Eight-Bit Heaven” won the New
Millennium Writings Fiction Prize in 2011.

Greystone Valley draws inspiration from some of Charlie’s favorite fantasy stories, including The Chronicles of Prydain, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and The Narnia Chronicles. Most importantly, it is a tale for Sarah, who is Charlie’s wife, friend, and greatest inspiration.

Join Princess Sophia in her pursuit of happiness.

Can be purchased in English at Amazon.com

and in German at Amazon.com

My Review:

This is an adorable ebook that most little ones will enjoy.  The beautifully illustrated pictures capture a young child's imagination as the story of this royal fairy tale unfolds.  This is a story of friendship, happiness and adventure.  Although I did like it and my youngest enjoyed reading it over and over, it was a story that is about feelings and about being happy with what you have and not always wanting more.  It is an adorable ebook that little ones will enjoy, though I personally didn't care for the frog that kept turning into a flying umbrella.  Not sure why this bothered me, but it did although I must say that it is a unique look at the princess and frog fairy tale..  I do like this author and have read a few of her books.  This is not my favorite of hers but is still a cute ebook for very young children - I recommend it for ages 1 up to 6.
