Magnificent Tales: Treasury of Bible Stories ~ will it be under your tree this year? #review

Magnificent Tales: Treasury of Bible Stories

Magnificent Tale Collection (David C. Cook, September 2014)

Children ages 4-8 will be delighted by these rhyming Bible stories pairing spiritual truths with playful illustrations.

Featuring lyrical stories full of lighthearted moments, this colorful

collection of Magnificent Tales is perfect for reading out loud.

As
families read these stories night after night, they will make memories
together while learning about the Bible.

Review:

This is one of the cutest bible story books I have seen.  Colorful and delightful illustrations bring each story to life.  With easy rhymes for young children to enjoy, this book is one that is great for even younger than the recommend age 4 - 8 to listen to as a parent or sibling reads it aloud.  Both of my daughters (ages 6 and 10) loved reading the fun rhymes and thought the illustrations were great!  They seemed to really enjoy taking turns reading out loud.  It was a fun way for my 6 year old to practice her reading and sight words!  This would make a great gift for someone special this Christmas season!

Return to Chelsey Falls by Marianne Gowers ~ Book Blast & #giveaway

Return to Chelsey FallsReturn to Chelsey Falls

After the death of his mother, fourteen year old, Wyatt Barnes was sent to live with his grandparents in Chelsey Falls, Washington. That summer was filled with new friends and new adventures until his life was turned upside down for a second time.
Almost ten years later, an offer to teach at the high school in Chelsey Falls, brings Wyatt back to

the small town. Is he getting a second chance to make amends with Alexa, the young woman that had befriended him?

Meanwhile, Wyatt’s sudden reappearance in town sends Alexa’s life into a tailspin. Alexa can’t help but wonder if Wyatt has finally found the peace he so desperately needed. Although apprehensive about opening old wounds, Alexa knows she can’t avoid Wyatt forever. Could what started out as a crush so long ago become more than that now? Or is it just too late?
Return to Chelsey Falls is a heartwarming story of second chances and forgiveness.

 Excerpt:

“Need any help, Lexa?”

“It’s A-lexa,” she said, dragging out the A at the beginning of her name. She threw her backpack over her shoulder, gathered her lunch and started for the junior high.

“Yeah, but I think I’ll call you Lexa.” I hurried to her side and flashed her a smile.

She shook her head, another tiny smile flickering across her face. She was cute when she was irritated.

I followed her to her locker, leaning against the one next to hers. I hadn’t made any friends yet and Lexa intrigued me. She slammed her locker shut.

“Did you need something?”

There was that irritated look again.

Lexa and I had History together after lunch. “I wanted to make sure you made it to class okay.” I thought I saw another smile as she started down the hall without answering.

“This is so nice,” I shouted into the busy hall. “Just you and me walking to class together.”

She snorted, quickly covering her mouth, but not before I saw a speck of spit fly through the air.

“Real funny, Wyatt.” She laughed and her face turned bright red. I wasn’t sure if she was embarrassed by the flying spit or by the fact that she actually knew my name.

“You know my name? Have we met?”

“Maybe you haven’t noticed, but every day Mr. Kline has to say, ‘Wyatt, wake up!’”

I liked her even more. She had spunk. I laughed as we arrived at the classroom, but my laughter was cut short. I’d forgotten something. I had my soccer ball in my hands and no backpack.

“Hey, can I borrow a pencil?” I hoped she didn’t think I was a big dork, standing there with just my soccer ball.

KIRK CAMERON’S SAVING CHRISTMAS #review & #giveaway

This Christmas,
have your family join with Kirk Cameron’s family and dive headfirst into all the
joy, dancing, celebration, feasting, imagination, and traditions that glorify
the true “reason for the season.”

KIRK CAMERON’S SAVING
CHRISTMAS
is an engaging
story that provides a biblical basis for our time-honored traditions and
celebrations, and the inspiration to stand strongly against a culture that wants
to trivialize and eliminate the faith elements of this holy season.

So take in
the splendor; take in the majesty; take in the story. Take it all in… and let’s
put Christ back in Christmas!

KIRK CAMERON’S SAVING
CHRISTMAS
is in theaters
for a limited engagement beginning November 14 for two weeks
only!

"Join me, and my family, and together let’s put Christ back into
Christmas. We’ll dive head first into all of the joy, the dancing, the
celebration, the feasting, the imagination and traditions that glorify the true
reason for the season.”
- Kirk Cameron

Saving Christmas is a wonderful defense of Christmas traditions and is
quite educational. Candy and I also enjoyed some good laughs. I pray that God
will use it to His glory.

Review:

I was able to watch the full movie in advance in order to share my opinion with you as the release date approaches.  Kirk Cameron leads the viewer on a journey through the different ways that Christmas decorations and celebrations are viewed through the eyes of many Christians.  It shows that many of us think that Christmas has reverted to it's pagan origins and has become too commercial and focused on gifts, Santa and the perfect tree - instead of Christ and his miraculous birth - so as Christians we often struggle with how to "save" the true Christmas without spoiling the "fun" for our family.   We struggle with celebrating a jolly Santa instead of Christ, but in reality Santa was a defender of the faith. (You'll have to watch the movie to find out why!!!)

The movie overall was fun, a little goofy at times and full of great facts to show how many of my thoughts on Christmas were wrong or skewed.  The movie is a definite must see and one that will make you take a look at the ways you celebrate and share this Christmas season with your family.

Instead of gifts under the tree being a focus on a man in a red suit and spoiling our kids - see it as the beautiful gifts that represent Christ sent to earth as a baby, born for die for our sins as the perfect gift and truly Enjoy this Christmas in a way you never have before!
