My Review:

As a Nurse and Mother of three, I have read a selection of baby books over the years to help me figure out what I consider "minor" issues that come up that are usually not worth taking my child into the office for a visit to figure out.  I have a couple that are my "go to" books that I highly recommend to any expecting parent, babysitter, parent, grandparent or caregiver for young ones.  Dr Carey's Baby Care Guide is definitely one that I would recommend as an addition to those all-important reference books that I consider a must-have for anyone taking care of infants!



I was quite impressed with the subjects covered in this small book as well as the full-color, real life photos.  I can't tell you how many times I read about an issue but wished for a good picture example to compare my son's or daughter's problem to, and this book has a wonderful amount of reference photos.

This book is full of great advice and examples for baby care that any caregiver would love to have on hand.



This book is organized in a user-friendly way, where the most common questions are handled by topic, as well as an informative appendix, which cross-references topics and
situations as well. A great book for a baby shower or new parent gift - or a great book for any caregiver to keep on hand!

this book down. It is for anyone, even if they do not have a deformity in their
physical body, but struggles with "labels" that society has put on them. Through
it all, God is there to show them that they are loved and accepted by him.

Love your dog, but not the mess in your house?

If you’ve ever owned a puppy (or currently have one) you know the problem: peeing or marking in the house! While most dogs can be successfully house trained within time, others are...well... a different story. Whether your dog is simply stubborn, or if there are medical issues leading to incontinence, belly bands provide a great solution. What is a belly band? It’s a cloth belt that wraps around your dog, and it holds a disposable pad inside to absorb the liquid.

While they’ve been available at pet stores for a while, I highly recommend getting them custom made for your dog. At the Purple Puppy, you can send in your dog’s measurements, and they even let you choose the fabric. What differentiates these hand made bands from store bought ones is the fit. You want the fabric to snugly wrap  around your dog, avoiding slips and leakage, yet still be comfortable for your pet to wear. For extra security, The Purple Puppy has elastics sown into the sides of all their bands, securing a far better fit than most other brands.

We have successfully used these at Evo and Eli’s Love Box, an animal sanctuary I volunteer for. I also use belly bands on one of my own dogs (I have four, but promised I wouldn’t reveal his name to protect his privacy. He’s a great dog, he just can’t quite make it through the night!). Purple Puppy bands are high quality products and, at about $10 each, will only run you half of what I paid for the store bought counterpart. In Let Me Get This Off My Chest: A Breast Cancer Survivor Over-Shares Margaret Lesh does what books about cancer seldom accomplish: she gives hope. One read through her Amazon customer reviews, and it’s evident: those undergoing treatment and battling a range of emotions find comfort in reading this memoir of someone who has been there. It’s like listening to the voice of a friend who knows. A friend who also has a sharp sense of humor, might I add. 

  From hot flashes to reconstructive options, Lesh gives you the patient’s point-of-view, complete with practical tips, minus the intimidating medical talk. But it doesn’t stop there. Cancer touches more than just the lives of those who receive the diagnosis. How do you deal with the news of a family member/friend/neighbor undergoing treatment? Should you visit? Commiserate? Stay clear? None of the above? This book does a tremendous job addressing those issues. It helps you understand the physical changes and treatment side effects, as well as the emotional roller coaster involved. Those battling cancer will see the light at the end of the tunnel, while the rest of us will learn to be a good friend and support.
