Mighty Handle Giveaway - Just in Time for the Busy Shopping Season ~ Holiday Gift Guide 2013

Welcome to the Mighty Handle Giveaway Event

hosted by Life in a House of Testosterone

and co-hosted by Mom Loves 2 Read.

It does not matter where I go, every time I pull out my Mighty Handle and start loading up my bags on it to carry them out to the car, people ask me every single time, "Where did you get that?" or I hear, "Did you see that? Isn't that neat? I need to get one of those!" WITHOUT FAIL. IT REALLY HAPPENS.

I did a review on the Mighty Handle and I must admit - it is the neatest invention since sliced bread. I love mine that much. I keep them in the car so no matter where I am, where I go, if there's baggage to be carried, I've got it covered!

*Little side note - as for me (Mom Loves 2 Read)  I am very interested in this new gadget and plan to see if I personally can host a review/giveaway for my followers in the near future . . . so if this Mighty Handle is of interest to you, let me know in the comment section so I can see about getting one for our blog too!

This giveaway begins 11/17 at 12:00 a.m. EST and ends 12/10 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Open to residents of the continental United States, ages 18 and older. Void where prohibited.

Faux Paw ~ What's a kid to do with an active imagination? Find out by reading this review!

Waldon Bear is a little boy who wants to be a bear.

“That’s impossible,” says his teacher, Mrs. Hunter. “Human children grow up to be human adults, not animals!”

But Waldon refuses to listen. Can Waldon make it as a bear in school?

Will Waldon convince the other children and Mrs. Hunter that he’s truly meant to be a bear?

This
humorous look at childhood will charm parents and delight young
readers. At its heart, this story carries an inspirational message to
believe in yourself and your dreams and for parents to believe in their
children, too.

And for those who can bearly wait to learn more
about bears, the book ends with Mrs. Dweck’s fun facts about bears from
around the world.

My Review:

Well, author Julia Dweck has done it again.  Created a wonderfully illustrated, and fantastically exciting story that children of all ages will love.  Little Waldon Bear has a Big Imagination.  His parents teach him that he can "be anything" he wants to be and he decides that he wants to be a bear.  A Real Bear.  So, what is a parent to do?  Encourage that wonderful imagination by creating a bear costume for him to wear . . . but his teacher is not so thrilled.

What an amazingly wonderful story that teaches children to use their imaginations and that pretending can be so exciting.  My youngest loves this story and asks at least once a week to read again the story about "the boy who is a bear."  It is one that will stick in a child's mind and will quickly become a read-to-me favorite!

Unstoppable by S.R. Johannes Book Tour and Amazon or Paypal GIVEAWAY

Unstoppable

Unstoppable by S.R. Johannes

After everything that has happened, Grace goes to the Everglades to live with her grandmother, Birdee. Even though she is now home-schooled by her bird-obsessed grandmother, the move gives Grace time to relax. She learns to scuba dive and starts boating with old man Rex, Birdee's casual friend/boyfriend.

One day while out in the marshes of the Everglades, Grace rescues an abused Florida panther, currently on the endangered list. The more she dives into the animal’s horrific condition, the more she ventures into the underground world of the roadside zoos that run rampant in Florida with a total disregard for the law. Eventually, she stumbles upon one large roadside zoo filled with a variety of endangered and illegal animals.

Before she can gather evidence and report her findings to the authorities, she is kidnapped by the ruthless owner and dragged deep into the Everglades for a hunting challenge. Only this time, Grace is the prey.

During a sick game of cat and mouse, Grace is offered one chance at survival. With a one-hour head start and very little supplies, time and skill are now all that stands between the hunter and the hunted.

Rene is the author of seventeen novels. She also has extensive experience writing comedy sketches, and worked for five years as the director of drama for a church. She has a degree specializing in Screenwriting, for which she earned the Excellence in Mass Communication Award, and graduated magna cum laude.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Hope Landon has been rewriting other people's greeting cards since she was six years old -- there's always a funnier caption. She's all set to chase those creative dreams with her musician fiance in New York City until he leaves Hope at the altar, deciding he must not really love this girl if he can't write a song for her. That may give her something to write about . . .

Hope disappears alone on what was supposed to be the couple's month long honeymoon. Upon returning she learns of her funeral -- everyone in her life concluded Hope must have killed herself after being jilted. Needing a fresh start more than ever, she heads for the Big Apple only to discover it's not that easy to rent a place when you've been declared dead.

Taking shelter at the YWCA, Hope soon lands a job at a Christian inspirational greeting card company as an assistant to Jake, a guy who shut down his organization's humor department. She has lost her faith in love; he needs to find something or someone that will make him laugh.

My Review:

This is an absolutely adorable book.  My youngest keeps reading it over and over and over . . . Roly-Poly Monster tells of all the fun adventures a young monster has throughout his day as he rolls all over joining his friends in all different kinds of fun activities.  The illustrations are absolutely adorable and the story itself is so fun and fanciful that children of all ages will enjoy reading about Roly-Poly and his fun-filled day.  Although recommended for children ages 2 - 5, I think this is a book that infant through age 7 will enjoy!

Scrooge and Marley by Karl Hollenbach ~ Boot Tour & GIVEAWAY on Mom Loves 2 Read

Karl-Hollenbach-Long

Scrooge & Marley

by Karl Hollenbach

Genre: Literary Fiction

Publisher: Books, Authors And Artists, div of internet marketing KY, LLC.

Release Date: November 14, 2012

Book Description:

SM-CovImg-v06-200dpi-032013A year after Ebenezer Scrooge encountered the ghost of his partner, Jacob Marley, as well as the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, Scrooge relives the previous Christmas and is visited by the ghost of Jacob Marley once more. Mediating for his friend and partner by fulfilling his requests, Scrooge witnesses an altogether different story.

This expansion on Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol, recounts how Marley unshackles his soul from previous deeds allowing Scrooge to partake of redemption.

Relive and recapture the essence of Christmas while exploring the wonders of life, living and death.

Excerpt:

Ebenezer Scrooge considered Christmas a “humbug.” Uncharitable to solicitors for funds for the poor, his only concern was whether the poorhouse was no longer open. He grudgingly gave his clerk Christmas day off. When his nephew wished him a “Merry Christmas,” he responded, “And good day to you, sir.” In short, Scrooge was not a pleasant person.

On Christmas Eve Scrooge was visited by the ghost of his dead, miserly and selfish partner, Jacob Marley, who had to trudge through the spirit world encumbered by chains. Marley told Scrooge that three spirits would visit him, and if he was to be saved from an even worse fate than was Marley’s, he had to meet these three spirits.

At twelve midnight a childlike figure appeared, saying she was the Spirit of Christmas Past and showed Scrooge scenes from his past. The second spirit, the Spirit of Christmas Present, a huge, jovial man, dressed in red and green, took Scrooge to the homes of those people that should have been dear to him.

These scenes touched Scrooge. And he shed tears. Visited by the third spirit, Scrooge said he feared it most. The Spirit of Christmas Future showed Scrooge his own lonely death, with no one grieving at his grave.

A changed man, Scrooge yelled, “I don't know what to do! I am as happy as an angel, I am as merry as a schoolboy, I am as giddy as a drunken man. A Merry Christmas to everybody!” The Spirit of Christmas had made Scrooge a different man from the one he had been.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:

As a husband/wife writing team, we are enthusiastic about books, kids, walking with God, gospel music, and each other! Together we are the authors or coauthors of over 120 books. (You can see our Publication Record by clicking HERE.) In addition to writing several books about Christian community, we have been privileged to coauthor numerous books with expert resource people on a variety of topics from racial reconciliation to medical ethics to ministry to kids in gangs.

But over the years the we have especially enjoyed writing for children and young people! This includes our award-winning TRAILBLAZER series, historical fiction about great Christian heroes and heroines for young people ages 8-12, and the four-volume HERO TALES: A Family Treasury of True Stories from the Lives of Great Christians, and the companion book, Heroes in Black History.

Somewhere along the way, our own children grew up! Son Julian is Director of Experience Design for the Alder Planetarium in Chicago where he “provides the experience of exploring space” for visitors. He has two sons, Liam Isaac and Elijah David. Daughter Rachel graduated from Eastern Mennonite University and after working in the field of rape-crisis prevention went on to earn a Masters Degree in counseling from the University of Illinois. She is now a counselor at “Uni High School” in Champaign, Illinois. She is the loving mother of Havah Noelle (our first grandchild!) and Noah Zion, our youngest grandchild. The Jackson family also includes a Cambodian foster daughter, Samen Sang, who has four children.

We live in Evanston, Illinois, where for twenty-seven years we were part of Reba Place Church, a Christian church community. We are now members of a multi-racial congregation in the Chicago area.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Forced to give up his hard-earned retirement, Harry Bentley goes back to work as a detective. Receiving a bizarre undercover assignment that sends him across the country by train. Things suddenly go awry when it appears one of his new neighbors may be part of a smuggling ring and suspicion rises about his own son’s involvement in a major drug cartel.
The second in the Windy City Neighbors series, Derailed is a contemporary, and often humorous, tale in an urban setting, featuring ordinary people wrestling with the spiritual and practical issues of real life. Intersecting with Grounded (book one), the Jacksons employ their innovative storytelling technique of “parallel novels.” Though each book follows its own drama and story arc, the characters’ lives become intertwined and affect one another. Derailed transports you to Beecham Street—a typical, isolated American neighborhood . . . until hope moves in.

Glasstic Glass Water Bottle - Save plastic by using Glasstic ~ Review - Holiday Gift Guide 2013

The Glasstic Glass Water Bottle is perfect for all of your favorite beverages.  It keeps your drinks free from plastic by having a glass bottle insert, but has a strong outer layer of plastic to keep it from being easily broken if dropped.  It is a great new design for on the go, around the house or anytime you need to have a cold drink handy.

Need more reason to choose Glasstic?  How about these great reasons . . .

It is Shatterproof: Designed with a glass insert on the inside of a durable plastic
outer casing that helps protect from breakage while providing
containment and shatter proofing even if the glass does break.  Our
customers love that we offer glass insert replacements for the life of
the product for just the cost of shipping.  This encourages reuse.

I personally use mine all around my home, in the car, on the go and any chance I get.  I love this new style of travel bottle - much better than plastic ones!

Safe & Pure: contains a 16oz pure glass insert on
the inside where your liquids are and a BPA Free Plastic outer shell
around the glass to provide durability and containment.  No risk of bad chemicals leaching into your water or beverage.

Clean: Product can be easily disassembled and cleaned manually or in the top rack of a dishwasher.

It really is easy to clean!

Temperate: Double layered protection with a space
between the glass and plastic which provides for total condensation
protection and some additional insulation for your beverage.  Won’t make
a mess on your wood table!

Doesn't sweat as much as other travel containers and still keeps my drinks cool and ice lasts a long time!

Easy to Use: Leak-proof flip cap lid to “drink on the go” and a safety lock to prevent  accidental opening & leakage.

My only issue with the cap, is that I have to drink from it sideways - The opening is a little wide for my liking, but easily remedied by drinking from the cap on the side instead of directly from the front.  But that is my personal issue - most people might not mind the wide oval opening.

Portable: The easy to carry handle & protective casing makes it perfect for...

Pools & Waterparks

Beaches & Lakes

The Golf Course & Other Sporting Events

Gyms & Yoga Studios

Schools

Walking, Pushing Strollers, And any other On the Go needs - It also fits perfectly in all my car's cup holders which is a major plus for me!  As a busy on the go mom, I take drinks with me in the car frequently - and drinks that fit in the cup holders are always a must for my family!

For more information and to view a Demonstration Video of the Glasstic
Shatterproof Glass Water Bottle please visit
www.glassticwaterbottle.com.

Need more of a reason to check out this great new drink container?  How about my personal recommendation?  It is easy to clean, comfortably fits in my fingers when walking, fits great in car cup holders.  Keeps my drinks cold and ice cold for long periods of time.  Is fun to use, easy to clean in the sink or dishwasher.  AND, mostly - I love the fact that my drink is not touching plastic, but glass - and it is reusable over and over and over!  Saves hundreds if not thousands of plastic water bottles that I often have in my fridge!

Still need more convincing?  Worried about the glass insert breaking?  Don't!  IF it breaks, take it apart carefully and discard the glass.  Wash and carefully dry all the remaining parts - then contact the company for a glass insert replacement - it is only $7.99 (includes shipping!)   What are you waiting for?  Check it out!

A Tender Tale of Love on the Prairie Perfect for CBA Readers!

Although Everett Cline can hardly keep up with the demands of his homestead, he won't humiliate himself by looking for a helpmate ever again--not after being jilted by three mail-order brides. When a well-meaning neighbor goes behind his back to bring yet another mail-order bride to town, he has good reason to doubt it will work, especially after getting a glimpse at the woman in question. She's the prettiest woman he's ever seen, and it's just not possible she's there to marry a simple homesteader like him.

Julia Lockwood has never been anything more than a pretty pawn for her father or a business acquisition for her former fiance. Having finally worked up the courage to leave her life in Massachusetts, she's determined to find a place where people will value her for more than her looks. Having run out of all other options, Julia resorts to a mail-order marriage in far-away Kansas.

Everett is skeptical a cultured woman like Julia could be happy in a life on the plains, while Julia, deeply wounded by a past relationship, is skittish at the idea of marriage at all. When, despite their hesitations, they agree to a marriage in name only, neither one is prepared for the feelings that soon arise to complicate their arrangement. Can two people accustomed to keeping their distance let the barricades around their hearts down long enough to fall in love?

My Review:

This book was amazing.  I love the angst of the main character Everett.  This poor man  has been through so much.  Bride after Bride has failed him to where he expects to be alone for the rest of his life, though he deserves a good woman at his side.  Add in some wonderfully caring neighbors who decide to play secret matchmaker behind his back, and then comes Julia.  She herself has escaped a bad almost-marriage, and unfortunately marrying a stranger is not her first choice.  These two seem to be a disaster waiting to happen, but oh my! well, it is almost a disaster but I can't tell you what happens.  All I can say is this is definitely a book worth reading!  Then, when done, read it again before sharing it with others!

A Word From The Author:

I
am a stay at home mother on a tiny little farm with a fixer-upper
house. As much as I love writing and reading about homesteaders, I am so
glad I’m a homesteader during an era with modern grocery stores to take
up for my slack. I am an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher by
trade, and I still work occasionally in that field along with being my
church’s financial secretary and writing novels.

My
husband and I have been married since 2001 and have a daughter and two
little boys. My husband shares my fascination with traditional living
except for being more hands on. He loves blacksmithing, knife smithing,
traditional archery, hunting, etc. Generally whatever a mountain man
does, he does it or has or wants to attempt it. He comes in handy for
research! And of course, the rest of the family gets involved. I have my
own blackpowder rifle, named Calvin, that my husband made for me. And
I’m pretty sure my daughter is probably one of very few her age who can
instruct adults how to shoot a longbow properly. The boy digs random
holes in my yard to make “cement” with dirt and water making our yard a
tripping hazard. The baby does what babies do.
