Julia Dweck does it again with Monkey Fun for all ages ~ Read my Review

Monkey Fun! proves that you’re never too young to begin your learning
adventure.

It’s a barrel of fun and chock full of interesting
monkey facts written in easy to understand rhyming verse for toddlers
ages 0-4.

“That’s not a monkey who’s peeling a
grape.
Bigger and tailless, he must be an ape.”
“Monkeys who live in a family group, travel together and share with
their troop.”

Bold, colorful illustrations by Aida
Barba Flores will capture the attention of young readers and aid in
story comprehension. This is an edutaining rhyming adventure that offers

fun learning resources in the back of the book including, Mrs. Dweck’s
monkey facts and a monkey counting game.

My Review:

When a barrel full of monkeys comes out to play, they have all kinds of adventures.  Monkey Fun is a wonderful story of how adventurous young monkeys can be.  This adorable story is full of funtastic illustrations and easy to read rhymes that keep young pre-readers and readers engaged from beginning to the very end.  It also includes some great monkey facts mixed in with monkey fun and frivolity.

Another favorite of my youngest - Lydia.  She absolutely loves author Julia Dweck's ebooks and repeatedly

asks to read them over and over on the Kindle or iPad.  Although her very favorite way to read them is sitting on my lap while we read it together on my Laptop.

I personally love how fun and unique this story is and how much it mixes some fun facts with funny, easy to remember rhymes.  I also enjoy being able to read these great ebooks on the go with my kids and even have entertained other little ones with similar ebooks on the go.  Ebooks make wonderful gifts, and Monkey Fun is a great addition to any ebook library!

Excerpt

"You're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen," Samuel remarked.
That was a bold statement from an Amish man. But Samuel's feelings were undeniable. Samuel knew that modesty was the Amish way. He'd been brought up on the plain life. Simple service to God. And while Samuel's feelings about himself were humble in nature, his feelings for Ruth were anything but.

Ruth meanwhile was no fan of attention. She was naturally shy. Samuel had managed to coax her out of her shell though. Still, Ruth was hardly comfortable in the spotlight. It was a mystery to everyone else why Ruth was such a wallflower. She had so much going for her, she just didn't seem to realize it.

"Now Samuel, there's no need to exaggerate," Ruth replied, modestly.

"Who says I'm exaggerating?" Samuel continued. "I've waited my whole life to meet a woman like you. And now that I have, it would be a shame not to appreciate you."

"Are you trying to make me blush?" Ruth wondered.

"No. I'm just trying to make you feel as good as you make me feel," Samuel said.

"I'd be careful with your expectations. If you let them get too high, you're bound to be let down," Ruth replied.

"It's too late. My expectations are already through the roof," Samuel admitted. "But don't worry, I can't imagine getting let down by you."

"It must be interesting looking at life through your eyes," Ruth remarked.

"What can I say? Love brings a rose colored tint to everything," Samuel replied.

 "Don't you agree?"

"Just because I'm not as vocal, doesn't mean I love you any less," Ruth said.

"How much do you love me?" Samuel wondered.

"So much that it scares me sometimes," Ruth admitted.

Samuel was confused. "What's there to be scared about?"

"Are you kidding? You know the road it's taken us to get here. So after all the bumps, to finally be with you, to finally turn my heart over, to let my feelings be exposed is both exciting and terrifying," Ruth explained.

It was true. Ruth and Samuel had found the most roundabout way of getting together. They had been friends for the longest time. Part of a tight knit group of friends that had grown up together in Lancaster. So Ruth and Samuel didn't want to do anything to jeopardize their friendship. They'd seen two of their close friends date in the past. But when their relationship went south, the friendship was ruined as well. Ruth and Samuel didn't want the same thing to happen to them.

So Ruth and Samuel dated other people. They did not have much luck finding love though. There were a lot of first dates, but very few second dates. After a while, Ruth and Samuel started to lose hope that they'd ever meet their match. That's when after a lot of hemming and hawing about risking their friendship, Ruth and Samuel finally gave in to the feelings they had for each other.

Ruth and Samuel's first date was the best either one had ever experienced. They were a great match. With so much in common. And they made a wonderful couple. It was hard to believe they'd been so afraid to get together. In the end, their friendship only added to the relationship they were building. And ever since then, Ruth and Samuel had been nearly inseparable. Now almost a year in, Ruth and Samuel couldn't imagine being with anyone else. They made each other happier than they ever thought possible. But that didn't mean Ruth was without her worries.

Samuel was always there with optimism abound though. "That's how I know we're meant for us each other. Because we know what else is out there. And none of it compares to being with you."

Ruth smiled. "You're the sweetest man I've ever met."

Improve your skin with Vitamin K1 Serum from Bioque ~ Review & Giveaway on Mom Loves 2 Read

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Vitamin K1 Serum is a cosmetic spot treatment that helps reduce the appearance of bruising, swelling, scars, spider veins,
varicose veins, eczema, acne and several other skin issues.  Helps to
reduce dark circles and puffiness under the eyes.  The appearance of
discolorations is visibly diminished giving an unprecedented new
clarity, tone and brightness to

the skin.

See the Bioque website for more information on ingredients and other products . . .

My Review:

After using Vitamin K1 Serum for the past few weeks on a couple of different scars and problem areas, I have already noticed a visible difference.  I decided to try it on a red spot on my face that is bothersome.  My dr. told me it is a swelling caused my capillaries close to the skin.  I accidentally scratched it open one time and it took nearly an hour for it to finally quit bleeding.  Another area I have tried this on is my old maternity scars.

I have tried other products with no success and thought that this Vitamin K1 Serum sounded perfect for even my older scars.  So, I started by applying it twice a day as recommended to clean, dry skin. I
like applying it first thing in the morning and right before I go to bed at night.  I have been using it for about 2 weeks now with some interesting results.  The spot on my face does not seem different but the skin around it seems softer and feels nice.

The scars on my abdomen and upper thighs also have not yet shown improvement, but I think that is due to not having used the product for enough time yet.  For some conditions it
can take 2-3 weeks to notice improvement so I am going to keep using it and see what happens.  for smaller and simpler areas like small bruises or fresh scars, many people have noticed improvement within 2 to 3 days.  The serum is easy to apply
and has a very light, pleasant scent.  I'll keep using it and hope to see some significant improvement very soon.  Try it for yourself and let me know your response!

I'd love to try a few of Bioque's other products - especially their Serum XL!

A wonderful book to help children understand Alzheimer's disease ~ Review of Green Kitty by Alexandra Faer Bryan

Called a book for all ages, Green Kitty was written for
children ages 8 to 12 to help explain Alzheimer’s disease and dementia,
and is both entertaining and educational. It was a finalist for both USA
Book News "Best Books 2011" and "International Book of the Year 2012"
in children's fiction, and is filled with true, laugh-out-loud animal
antics. Green Kitty will please any child who loves their pets and parents will enjoy

reading it out loud to younger children.

It is a collection of stories within a story with a grandmother
that recalls old anecdotes, mostly about family pets, for a visiting
grandchild. The grandmother has recently been placed into assisted
living due to her dementia and their bond grows stronger through the
visits despite the illness. Helpful information about Alzheimer’s
disease is deftly woven into the work.

Green Kitty will capture the imagination of both boys and girls. Overall the books shows what true family love is all about.

My Review:

As a nurse I personally worked with men and women that were struggling with Dementia.  Whether as a resident of the Nursing Home I worked in, or as family visiting a loved on with Dementia or Alzheimer's.  I also lost a loved one a few years ago who was suffering with early onset of Alzheimer's and had dealt with dementia for several  years prior to her diagnosis.  As a family member, it was difficult to have her repeat herself often within a short period of time, but thankfully I never personally had to deal with an episode where she did not know who I was.

As a Reviewer, in reading through "Green Kitty" I was able to empathize with the young child in the story with the concern for the Grandmother's failing health.  I loved getting to read through the Grandmother's memories and stories.  It reminded me of all the wonderful stories my Grandmother told me over the years and in more recent years repeatedly before she passed away.

I love that this story is a wonderful way to help children understand Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer's and how it not only effects the person affected, but the family and friends as well.  It can be difficult to understand how a person we love no longer functions in the way we expect them to, but we can still be kind, loving and patient with them and show them love and support.

One issue I had with this story is that it is written for older children, as there are issues dealt with that younger ones would not understand.  Also, I found that it does need some editing to smooth out some of the sentence mistakes and grammar problems.  There were quite a few times that a wonderful story was interrupted for me by an incomplete or mistyped sentence or phrasing that did not flow or quite make sense.

I loved the few scattered illustrations and would have loved to see more.  I think it would appeal more to the 8 to 12 age range with a few more fun illustrations to go with each chapter/story.  Finally, with some minor editing this would definitely be a 5 star book!

PreK Alternative at Inspired Arts - Fall 2014

Image

It's
that time of year - a young mom's decision on where to send her child
for Prek in the fall?!! WE have the perfect place, right here at IAA!!!

"Imagination is more important than Knowledge" - Albert Einstein

Are you ready to give your child his or her 'best ' start in life this coming preschool year? We
have the perfect PRE-K FALL program for him or her!!!

What is it?
This fall, we are launching a

3 day or 5 day Pre-k  alternative
program, for children 3-5 years,  with classes each week in:  dance,
visual/graphic art, music, drama, gymnastics, and science/math.  Classes
run Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Monday-Friday, 8:30-11:15 starting
August 18th, 2014 for 9 months.

Why we are different?  Teachers-
Our teachers have degrees or
certifications in early childhood education. THey are well versed in the
arts and have much experience with preschool children.  Curriculum-  We
feel the best way for your child to learn is 'thru the arts' (i.e.
creative movement, visual art, architecture, music, and theatre).  There
is no need to come in for an additional arts' class with our program.
We give your child not only socialization, circle time and Prek
readiness (shapes, colors, letters, numbers, name
recognition), but also a well rounded arts' education!  WE also abide by
the early childhood standards of education  in language arts, math,
science, social science, physical development, fine arts, foreign
language and social emotional development.  Best of all? Your child is
learning ALL the time with our integrated learning system, the suggested
way preschoolers should learn!!

Why is prek and fine art so important? The first 5 years of a child's life are
crucial to brain development, social development and overall esteem.

"The
arts are especially appropriate in the education of children of
elementary age and younger because they learn most easily when lessons
engage their feelings and bodies as well as their minds. Artistic
lessons encourage self discipline, imagination, critical thinking,
originality, flexibility and divergent thinking in the face of ambiguity
and facility in using a wide range of symbolic tools, according to
researchers and educators. Words and numbers are  both sets of symbols,
each representing a different way of thinking about the world and its
meaning. Every form of art- music, dance, drama, sculpture- provides
children with another set of symbols for thinking about and expressing
ideas/meaning. " -The Alliance for Childhood-

Habe Naturals Hand and Foot Cream Review on Mom Loves 2 Read

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

The Habe Naturals Hand and Foot Cream is made from only the finest natural ingredients
including olive oil, coconut oil, tea tree oil & beeswax. This head
to toe body moisturizer works wonders on dry skin, cracked hands
and feet.It comes in a nice easy to open case that is the perfect size and style to keep in a purse or bag for anytime, at home or on the go.

When used on the feet and hands, it is soft and silky and feels amazing.  It does take a few minutes to fully soak in and feels a bit oily when applied, so I had to make sure I was planning to sit for a few minutes after using it on my feet.  When used right before bed, I noticed that my feet felt smoother and softer in the morning.

I love that I can have this on hand in my purse and not worry that it will get squeezed and make a mess.  My girls also like using this on their hands whenever I have it out.  Just remember when using it that it is a solid, oil based moisturizer and plan for a little time for it to soak in - otherwise you may transfer some of the oils to whatever you touch.

Get rid of Germs witout the Alcohol ~ Read my Review of Safe Hands, non-toxic and safe for little hands. #getsafehands

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

As a parent of three kids, I often think about ways to help my kids keep their hands free of the germs that they can accumulate from daily play and activities.  I've tried several types of hand sanitizers to keep in my purse and on their backpacks for them to use when

soap and water are not available, but often end up with sticky hands from the sanitizer as we wait for it to soak in or manage to get too much.  When Safe Hands arrived in my mailbox I was excited to check it out.  No alcohol! Non-Toxic! Non-Flamable!  I mean Wow - truely Safe for kids and even without the alcohol it dries much quicker as it absorbs into the skin quickly without leaving sticky feeling.  As we pumped it out onto our hands, it came out foamy - so fun, and some of the scents are so soft and fun - yes smells can be fun!

With a variety of products from classic to squirts - lol, and a selection of fun scents including a scent free for those with sensitive noses - our favorites are cucumber mint, cool blue and bubble gum!  Safe Hands Sanitizers are environmentally friendly, safe and non-toxic for kids and pets, are alcohol free, moisturizing, have fun scents and are easy for travel in purses, backpacks, vehicles or pockets!

About Safe Hands:

After years of in-depth scientific research and clinical testing, Dr.
Jay Reubens, inventor of the first touch-free hand sanitizer dispenser,
and Dr. David Dyer teamed up to create safeHands® —the world’s first doctor-invented alcohol-free line of hand sanitizers.
This non-toxic, foam-based hand sanitizer not only hydrates, but is
skin-soothing and kills more than 99.99% of germs on contact. Both the
safeHands® Squirts and safeHands® Classic Line, their respective adult
and children line, is scientifically shown to INCREASE in its
germ-killing ability after the 3rd consecutive use.

Did you know there are approximately four shots of vodka in each 2oz. bottle of typical hand sanitizer? SafeHands
ditched the culprit behind traditional hand sanitizer’s undesirable
side effects – alcohol – and replaced it entirely with Benzalkonium
Chloride (BAC), the same ingredient in mouthwash and eye drops, to
create a hand sanitizer that is tough on germs and SAFE for skin. The
rich formula of every safeHands® bottle moisturizes the skin without
leaving hands irritated, dry and flaky.

We love our Safe Hands and plan to keep this as our main sanitizer wherever we go!  Check them out online:  http://safehands.com/
