Free Yummy Treats at our Family Favorite Restaurant ~ Review & Giveaway on Mom Loves 2 Read

http://www.culvers.com/assets/images/img-logo.png

ABOUT CULVER'S

In
1984 Craig and Lea Culver, along with Craig’s parents George and Ruth,
opened the very first Culver’s in the family’s beloved hometown of Sauk
City, Wisconsin.

George
Culver, who's father was a cheesemaker and grandfather was a farmer, spent the early part of his career inspecting and grading dairy
farms. While he was out
calling on area dairy farms, his wife Ruth Culver was home joyfully raising their
three children, instilling in them the small-town, Midwest values she
herself had come to know.

In 1961, George and Ruth bought their first
restaurant. With their kids growing up serving guests and learning
firsthand about hospitality and delicious food cooked to order, the
Culver family’s team approach became the model of many successful
restaurants and supper clubs to come.  To read the rest of this wonderful story click here.

My family's favorite hometown restaurant is Culver's with a wonderful family friendly atmosphere and special kids and family nights, it makes a great place for the whole family to eat delicious food and amazing deserts at affordable prices.  When offered the opportunity to promote Culver's Thank You Farmer's tribute, I jumped at the chance.  And now, I have a Yummy Review and Giveaway to share with you as well.

I happen to live in a somewhat "small" town, not too far from a pretty "big" city.  This small town happens to be known as the Pumpkin Capital.  With a large Nestle factory right downtown, and huge semi trailers full of pumpkins travelling through every fall, it is not hard to imagine that our town yearly festival is called the "Morton Pumpkin Festival."  In honor of this fun event each year, our town often has Pumpkin Ice Cream, Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin Doughnuts, Pumpkin Chilli and a whole variety of other Pumpkin goodies.

I tried the Pumpkin Pie Concrete mixer, and all I can say is YUMMY!  Then, of course (not the same night thankfully) I had to go back and try another flavor . . . Oreo!  It was my husband's choice since I thought it would be nice of me to share with him.  For the photo though, I had to bribe my son with a few bites - lol   The Culver's website also has a link where you can see the flavor of the day in your local restaurant, AND see all the current Concrete mixer flavors that they have . . . I have a list started of which flavors I want to try next, and next after that, and after that . . .

In honor of our love of sweet yummy cold treats, delicious burgers on buttery buns, fries, onion rings and not having to cook or clean up . . .  here is a fun giveaway!

3 different people who enter this giveaway

will each receive a coupon for one FREE Concrete Mixer from Culver's.

Since I will personally be mailing out these fun coupons, this giveaway is

Open to US residents ages 13 and older

(must have a parent's permission to enter and to complete entries on the giveaway form.)

35 Ways I Know I'm a Mom ~ More Fun Mommy Moments

As I was searching around the internet, I found a fun and fantastic blog post called

"100 Ways You Know You're a Mom".

It is such a great post that I thought I'd share my top personal favorites from her list and a few of my own original ones as well.

How many fit you?

~ 35 Ways I Know I'm a MOM ~

  1. A trip to the grocery store alone is my idea of a spontaneous getaway.

  2. If I don’t change the toilet paper roll, it doesn’t get changed.

  3. I have a hard time remembering what the words “personal space” mean.

  4. I consider Goldfish crackers a food group.

  5. I listen to my kids' favorite music even when I'm driving by myself.

  6. I can’t remember the last time sat down to a meal first.

  7. You wish there was drive through or delivery for everything (food, groceries, doctors, groceries. . . )

  8. I can do 18 things all at the same time.

  9. I start to do 18 things all at the same time but never complete any of them

  10. After completing some of those 18 things, the kids undo each and every one so it looks like you never did anything.

  11. I consider going to the bathroom or showering uninterrupted the height of luxury.

  12. I can grab something from the backseat of the car (or in the diaper bag) without even looking.

  13. I know how badly stepping on a piece of Lego can hurt.

  14. I have an entire Pinterest board full of crafts that I most likely will never get around to actually doing.

  15. I think wrestling baby alligators would be easier than getting kids in bed on time.

  16. My husband tells me it isn’t worth buying nice furniture or new carpet until the kids go off to college.

  17. I cry with happiness when one of my children eats carrots.

  18. I tell myself that pizza has all the food groups.

  19. Some days I just want to quit motherhood or take a VERY long vacation.

  20. I haven’t slept in over a decade.

  21. I have clothes in every size under the sun, many of which I'll never fit in but refuse to get rid of "just in case"

  22. I obsess over whether or not I remembered to sign that permission slip.

  23. Caffeine is one of my love languages. (Mt. Dew the breakfast of champion moms!)

  24. I will never ever be able to sort, process or print all the photos you take. (and they will most likely never make it into the photo albums)

  25. I would rather have someone help you with the housework than anything else in the world.

  26. I wish all my kids had a built in GPS.

  27. I have several story books and most children's videos memorized. (and almost all veggietales movies)

  28. I have made s’mores on a campfire, on the kitchen stove, and even in the microwave.

  29. I didn’t know T-Ball could be more exciting than the World Series.

  30. Cereal is a breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner kind of food at my house.

  31. I loathe having to match socks. (and often throw dozens away that have remained unmatched for months)

  32. Having kids has taught me how to love and be loved like nothing else on earth.

  33. I do more multitasking in an average day than any CEO.

  34. I pray. About everything. Because I’ve learned I can hardly control anything.

  35. My job description could fill an entire book. (or maybe even a library)

Go ahead, share it, tweet it, pin it, and pass it on!  But please don't copy and paste my list, just share a few of your favorites and then
link back here or to the original post here.

Have a few you'd like to share?  Comment below and let me know!

FLASH GIVEAWAY & Review ~ Halloween Fun in the Dark with Costumes that Glow ~ #lightsuits

Get lit! Glow in the dark costumes are awesome!  Great for Halloween Parties, Birthday parties, sleepovers and so much more!  You just literally put on the black
jumpsuit, peel the tape off and stick the glow lights on the jumpsuit in whatever design or pattern you want. Then just
turn the lights out and watch your creation come to life.  These suits conform to pretty standard sizing for both adults and children with
a little bit of extra room to be loose and then a little bit more to allow
the user to wear a coat underneath.

It was so much fun to watch my son and one of his best friends putting together their Light Suits!  They were

figuring out together what patterns and designs they would each have.

Good thing I have a basement playroom they could use to spread them all out.  The Light Suits come with a large selection of peel and stick light sticks from an inch or so long up to about 6" long strips, in several different colors.  Both boys used over half of their lights but still had quite a few left they could use for a new design later.

These lightsuits are fun and easy to use.  I ordered an adult small and a youth size 12-14.  Both were more than large enough with lots of leg and arm room left over.  When ordering, select the size your child is currently in, no worries, the suits are plenty roomy with lots of space for clothes underneath.  And the arm and legs lengths are more than long enough and can be cut or folded shorter if needed.

Also, extra peel and stick lights can be ordered for repeated use or for a much grander design.

These fun Light Suits can be purchased  for only $29.95.  Considering how much a cheap costume at the local store costs, I found these to be much better quality and I love that they can be reused over and over.  A few of the peel and stick parts came off the light sticks, but they were easy to reapply.  Also, I found light sticks that I had left over from previous holidays, that the kids just put a little tape on and applied to the costumes too.

So much for for such a small price!  Check them out!

Wipes Wraps Review ~ A cute and stylish way to hide those unsightly wipes containers

As most parents can tell you, next to the diapers, what product to you touch in the first years of baby's life other More than the baby wipes tub?  You can find them stashed in nearly any room of the house, setting out for all to see.  The unsightly and boring plastic baby wipes tub.
Not the most lovely accent item!

From this concept, the WipesWraps Baby Wipes Covers was born.  The world's first
stretchable cloth

cover created to turn unsightly baby wipes tubs into the
perfect accessory for any room or space. They are available in fun and
fashionable prints for the nursery, living space, and bathroom.  Many
moms (and dads too) often go to great lengths to make each baby's room the most
beautiful and serene space they can.  WipesWraps are a stylish,
flexible, and fun solution to the challenge of hiding those baby wipes containers.
Finally there is a way to Banish the Unsightly Tub!

For this review, I was sent an adorable WipesWrap in black with large white dots. Since my kiddos are all too old for diapers and Finally out of pull-ups . . .I no longer have wipes containers in my home (after 12 years with them they are finally gone!)  So, I borrowed this container from my sister in law for this review.  I followed the step by step instructions included and was quite impressed when this boring white container turned into . . .

This nice, sleek looking designer-style beauty.  I love the idea that I wish I could have used when my kiddos were younger.  I love the variety of designs available and how easy it is to put on.  My only problem was that the container did not want to remain closed once the cover was on, but I am not sure if that is because the container itself was well-used or due to the overlap of the cover.

If you check out the WipesWraps website and social media sites, you can see that they also have wraps in a surprisingly large variety of colors and styles.  And they are not just for the nursery, but also for the bathroom, living spaces in the home and even for big kids' rooms!  You can find out more on their website ~ cleverrelish.com

Grace Unplugged & Own It ~ Reviews & Giveaway on Mom Loves 2 Read

About Grace Unplugged the Novel

Grace Trey is an 18 year old singer as passionate about her Christian faith
as she is her phenomenal, God-given musical talent. Both traits come from her
father, one hit wonder Johnny Trey who found Jesus after losing his chart
success two decades ago.

When Grace encounters her own music break of a lifetime, the sudden dive
into the "real world" puts her deeper beliefs to the test. Pop superstardom is
just within reach but appears to require some spiritual compromise. Will Grace
reject her faith, or will she own it?

Grace Unplugged is based on the motion picture of the same name
starring AJ Michalka (Super 8) and Kevin Pollak (A Few Good Men)
with performances by award-winning artists Chris Tomlin and Jamie Grace.

My Review:

Grace Unplugged is the story of one girl and her struggle with her faith. She feels that her parents do not understand her dreams and though they want what is best for her, she does not agree with their ideas.  She goes off on her own and finds that growing up and growing into her own personal faith is much harder than she thinks.

This coming of age story is full of struggles that most teens and young adults can understand, and most adults have been through at some point in their lives.  Grace struggles to find where her faith in God and the real world fit together.  This is a great story of one young woman's life experience and choices. I think most readers will enjoy the story and morals within Grace Unplugged the Novel.

And don't forget to watch for the movie coming out October 4th!

About the Grace Unplugged Author

Melody Carlson has sold more than five million books. A professional writer
for twenty years, she recently received the Romantic Times Career Achievement
Award. Melody has two grown sons and lives with her husband in the Pacific

About Own It, Discover Your Faith in God

The movie Grace Unplugged tells the
story of Grace Trey, an ideal Christian teenager who is also a phenomenal
singer. But when she is pushed into the “real world” at the tender age of
eighteen after getting the music break of a lifetime, her faith is put to the
test.

Own It mirrors the film by asking
what it means to really “own” your personal faith rather than just automatically
following in the footsteps of parents, friends, or other influencers.
Best-selling authors Hayley and Michael DiMarco help readers understand what to
do when faith meets real world challenges.

Without solid beliefs, poor choices are likely to follow. You must take the
time to really know who you are, who you are becoming, and who God made you to
be. It's your personal faith . . . own it!

My Review:

Own It is a companion book for the Grace Unplugged book and movie.  It encourages the reader to think seriously about his or her personal faith.

Is it your faith? or the faith your parents or grandparents?  Are you going to church services on Sunday mornings because everyone expects you to? or is it something that is an important part of your personal life?  What choices are you owning in your personal faith walk?

This book has some great concepts that help the reader to take a personal and in depth look at their faith, beliefs and choices.  I did enjoy some parts of this book, and I do feel it made me take a closer look at my personal beliefs.  A nice companion to the Grace Unplugged book.

Real Alaskan Courage ~ Stranded by Dani Pettrey ~ Review & Giveaway on Mom Loves 2 Read

stranded

Stranded (Alaskan Courage #3)

When her friend vanishes from a cruise ship, reporter Darcy St. James isn't satisfied with their explanation that she simply left her job of her own accord. Something isn't lining up, and Darcy believes the only way to find the truth is to put herself in Abby's position. Within days, Darcy learns her friend wasn't the only person to disappear mysteriously.

Last summer, a woman vanished under almost identical circumstances.
Gage McKenna has taken a summer-long stint leading adventure excursions for the passengers of various cruise lines that dock for a few days of sightseeing.

He's surprised to find Darcy working aboard one of the ships, investigating a troubling report. Something sinister is going on and the deeper they dig the more Gage fears they've only discovered the tip of the iceberg.

Stranded Excerpt

Abby's head swam, her vision narrowing as she stumbled into her cabin. What had they slipped her and when? Nausea rumbled in her stomach, magnified by the surging waves created by the brewing storm. How could she have been so foolish?

They must have figured out who she was and that she was close to exposing them. They were trying to silence her though if it came down to it, she preferred death to the alternative.

She lifted the receiver and dialed Darcy's cabin.

Please be there. Darcy had said she'd wait in her room, but the phone kept ringing until it rolled over into voice mail. This wasn't a message for voice mail. Not if they knew who she was. Not if it could lead them to Darcy. She had to find a better way, a safer way to leave a message only Darcy would understand.

She scribbled a quick note. Now . . . where to put it? She grabbed the Gideon Bible from the nightstand, slipped the message inside, set the Bible on her bed, and headed for the door. Only Darcy would know Abby would have no reason to have a Bible on her bed. Turning, she spotted her purse next to the nightstand, grabbed it, and placed it atop the Bible. Never hurt to have a little added protection. Darcy would still recognize the significance.

As she walked around her bed, the ship heaved and she stumbled. She needed help. Wobbling with each step, she managed to grasp the doorknob, the metal cool inside her clammy palm. Her breath quickened. Cracking the door, she peered into the corridor, thankful to find it empty. Stepping into the hall, she moved toward the elevator.

Shadows arched around the bend halfway down the hall, where another corridor intersected it. She halted. Her breath hitched.

A man spoke, his words angry and heated. A second man responded. Her heart seized in her chest. It was them. They were coming.

My Review:

This
is the third book in author Dani Pettrey's Alaskan Courage Series and
each book gets better and better. I love reading stories in a series.
Darcy is one of my favorite characters with her inner strength and her
passion. She and Gage make this story come alive!  As a lover of clean
christian fiction mysteries with some great romance thrown in, I must
say that this book does not disappoint.  I would recommend reading the
first two books in this series before this one.  Although it can be read
as a stand alone book, Darcy and Gage's story actually starts in book 2
- Shattered.  I loved much of the book but I don't like giving spoilers
so I'm just going to say it is a great read!

Made to Last by Melissa Tagg ~ Television meets Romance in this fun fiction story!

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

Made to Last

Bethany House Publishers (September 15, 2013)

by

Melissa Tagg

ABOUT THE BOOK

Miranda
Woodruff has it all. At least, that's how it looks when she's starring
in her homebuilding television show, From the Ground Up. So when her
network begins to talk about making cuts, she'll do anything to boost
ratings and save her show--even if it means pretending to be married to a
man who's definitely not the fiance who ran out on her three years ago.

When a handsome reporter starts shadowing Miranda's
every move, all his digging into her personal life brings him a little
too close to the truth--and to her. Can the girl whose entire identity
is wrapped up in her on-screen persona finally find the nerve to set the
record straight? And if she does, will the life she's built come
crashing down just as she's found a love to last?

If you'd like to read the first chapter of Made to Last, go HERE.

My Review:

What a unique story! I used to watch the TV show "Home Improvement" several years ago when it was popular.  As I began to read this story, I could see how fun it was to make a story about a woman who anchors a similar show - female style!  The fun and many times humorous twist in this book kept me reading to find out what would happen next.  The story also shows what can happen when we tell a "little white lie" for good reasons, and it unravels right before our eyes.  Such a fun read!  Definitely recommend this one!  It is a Christian Fiction read, but don't worry it is not preachy.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

A Word From The Author:

I’m a former reporter turned author who loves all things funny and romancey. My debut novel, a romantic comedy titled Made to Last, releases from Bethany House in September 2013. In addition to my nonprofit day job, I’m also the marketing/events coordinator for My Book Therapy, a craft and coaching community for novelists.

It all started when my dad, at the ripe old age of sixteen, picked up my mom up for their first date. She was thirteen. Thirteen!* Dad drove a cherry red car up the lane to my grandparents big ol’ green house and honked his horn…whereupon Mom jumped out of the apple tree she’d been waiting in and off they went…fishing. True story. (I’d give more details, but I’m saving it for a novella I plan to entitle Two Leaves. Mom, I really hope you read this.)

Four years of college, a few trips abroad and a stint as a reporter later, that dream is soon to be a reality. My debut novel, a romantic comedy titled Made to Last, is now out from Bethany House. Book two, Here to Stay, comes out on May 1, 2014.

In between writing and staring out the window brainstorming, I also work as a grant-writer at one of Iowa’s largest private nonprofits and serve as the marketing/events coordinator for My Book Therapy, a craft and coaching community for novelists founded by Susan May Warren.
