“ ‘You will never be able to eat anything with gluten for the rest of your natural life. EVER.’ ”

That’s what my doctor told me while I was sitting in his office with my jaw on

the ground. . . . No wheat, rye, or barley for the rest of my life? No sourdough pancakes or pizza crust? No sprouted wheat bread fresh out of the oven? In my mind, this news equated to no more enjoyment of food.”

When The Secrets of Gluten-Free Baking author Jillayne Clements learned gluten was off the table, her taste buds rebelled. But she soon discovered that gluten-free food can be healthy and delicious! Use her unique whole-foods approach to create

• Cinnamon Rolls

• Buttermilk Biscuits

• Honey Oat Bread

• and more!

This book blends taste and satisfying nutrition into mouthwatering gluten-free recipes your whole family will enjoy.

Bake your way to better health today!

Review

I am very pleased with this book. The recipes were easy to follow like the multigrain wraps or the Blueberry muffins. The ingredients were those that were easily found in alot of pantries or they could be found at you local grocery store. My only problem with the book is that there was no nutritional values listed after each recipe. Also there were pictures with each recipe to look at to give you an idea on how it was to look like when prepared.

Eclair goes to Stella's by Michelle Weidenbenner ~ a fun children's book on Tour & #giveaway

NEW RELEASE........CHILDREN'S BOOK BY MICHELLE WEIDENBENNER

Hi, I’m Éclair and I’m seven. My sister Meggie is two. When mom got sick we had to go live with Stella, my dad’s mom, the one with maroon colored hair. I begged Dad not to make us stay with her because she beat her horse and was going to eat her rooster, but he didn’t believe me. Even after I pretended I was going to barf, he

left us with Stella.

So there we were, Meggie and me, on a strange pink farm with a skinny horse, a mean rooster, and Stinky Stella who

had a living room filled with dead deer heads.

What would she do to us?

Would we end up on her wall too?

Book Reading Age

First – Third grade GIRLS. 5 – 9 year olds

My Review:

A cute and fun book for younger readers.  Just a little warning for some more sensitive children, the grandma "Stella" has animal head on her wall - she hunts and farms so for those who might be over sensitive about animals I thought I should let you know.

Overall a cute and fun story.  Well written with a few minor flow issues at the beginning but otherwise a fun read for younger readers.  A story that teaches children not to judge based on first impressions and misconceptions but to give others a chance to show who they truly are.

“Do you want to name her?” Stella said.

I squeezed my eyes to think again. “Star. She looks like a movie star.”

I love it.” Stella reached up to give me a high-five. “Star, it is.”

Help the Animals not be afraid in Goodnight, Ark by Laura Sassi #review

By Laura Sassi, illustrated by Jane Chapman Published by Zondervan

Beds are ready.

Food is stored.

Noah hollers,

“All aboard!”

It’s bedtime
on Noah’s ark, but the animals

can’t sleep because of the storm.

Two by
two, they crowd into Noah’s bed, creating a sticky situation.

Will Noah
ever get them back to their own beds?

Climb aboard the ark for this
rollicking, yet ultimately restful bedtime story as Noah finds a way to
make things calm and cozy, even in the midst of a storm.

Review:

What an adorable story!  Little ones will absolutely love to have Goodnight Ark read to them over and over.  Seeing the poor frightened animals climb into bed with Noah because they are scared of a storm, just as many little children are was interesting to my little ones.  They loved seeing that even animals can be frightened of things that scare them too.

Children of all ages can relate to being frightened, especially during a storm so this story is one that will engage the interest of both little ones and parents as well.  This is a fun story of the animals on the ark getting into bed
with their grownup during the storm for comfort.  My
kids loved the rhyming words and all of the wonderful, colorful and adorable illustrations.

The story is written in rhyme and is easy and fun to read over and over.  It is not a Bible Story and but a fun fiction story with Noah and animals as the main characters. Even adults will enjoy reading this adorable story.

During Back to School consider the children who are in the hospital

It’s that time of year again, back to school!  Every fall, parents flock to the bus stop to see their kids off to the classroom…for the very first time.  As they watch who was once their precious bundle board the bus, moms and dads may wonder about the challenges that lie ahead.

Tough teachers…fights with friends…none of these problems are easy, but many parents think this is as bad as it gets.  Unfortunately, others must face the unthinkable: their child is diagnosed with a life-threatening disease.

Imagine: as some families are setting a budget for school supplies, yours is trying to scrape together money for cancer treatments.  While another set of parents feels guilty that they can’t

afford the latest lunchbox, you are crushed with helplessness when you realize the doctors can’t help you without insurance.

All parents want to ease their child’s pain, but what if you can’t?  Bandaging a cut is easy; watching your baby struggle to survive is not.  This is where we come in.  You don’t have to fight this battle alone!

Children’s Hospitals National Foundation (www.chnf.org) raises money and awareness to help children with diseases.  This nonprofit, founded in 2102, organizes charity events and plans hospital visits for volunteers to cheer up patients.  We have also helped fund cancer research to prevent future diagnoses. Check out the Facebook page, (link: https://www.facebook.com/CHNFChildren’s?fref=ts), where you can subscribe to receive more information daily.

Every little bit helps: from a cup of coffee sold at a fundraiser to a warm smile for a bedridden child, it doesn’t take much to give back!

It may only take a few minutes to read our mission and join the organization…but for our small soldiers, that time can make all the difference.

The Buzz About Books 1 & 2

Book 1: "I am 7 years old, and I loved this book because of EJ's imagination and how it focused on the real meaning of Christmas. The book made me laugh, and I especially liked the part when EJ used the shopping cart to pretend to be a race car driver. She thought her mom's scarf was a yellow flag, and she stopped just before she crashed into the display of glue bottles. I liked EJ's character, and I read the book in about 5 days. When we had "Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character Day" at school, I dressed up like EJ Payne. I can't wait for the second book in this series!" ~ Emily E., Amazon

Book 1: "My 9-year-old foster daughter loved the book! She related well to EJ and her spunky personality and humorous outlook on life and what it hands you. Great lessons for her to learn, as well as entertaining. She read it in a matter of days and even chose reading it over playing Nintendo, which is a huge endorsement! I also enjoyed it and found it a fun and comforting read for this 40-something adult. Great job. We're really looking forward to Book 2 of EJ's adventures at camp! Thanks, Annie!" ~ Lfierbaugh, Amazon

Book 2: "Church Camp Chaos is a delightfully funny look into the highly imaginative workings of a tween girl, EJ Payne. The book cleverly uses a combination of diary entries, narration, and hilarious passages peeking into EJ's daydreams. The story is originally clever and, at times, very poignant. I thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic book and I highly recommend this series to young girls in particular between the ages of 8 and 12 who also love Clementine, Judy Moody, and Ramona Quimby." ~ Renee @ Mother Daughter Book Reviews

Book 2: "Curly, my 8-year-old bookworm, loved this book. The day it arrived in the mail I let her look through it. By that evening she brought the book to me to thank me and tell me she was finished. She read the entire book in one day and I don't think she ever put it down! She enjoyed EJ's adventures and the fun times she had at church camp. She told me the book was "funny." I appreciated the way the book treated family relationships and showed a loving family who works together and endures different situations together. EJ and her brother don't always get along but their parents encourage them to be kind and EJ grows to appreciate her brother and even his slightly obnoxious attempts at humor. I enjoyed the life lessons that EJ learned about trust, faith, and friendship and am glad that I can find books for my daughter to read that are humorous and fun while still promoting good values." ~ 5 Star Review, Lextin Academy, Amazon
