My Hikes for kids - keep those too long pant legs in style with cute fasteners in different styles. Holiday Gift Guide 2013

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

My Hikes Fasteners help kids and sometimes even moms "hike" up their
pants.  They are lightweight and comfortable.  Kids love to wear them
because they're cute, fun and they work.

They are for use in a variety of situations:

1) Size transitions: Previous size is embarrassingly short, but the next size starts out too long

2) Pants preservation: Kids are "walking off the hems" of that brand new pair of pants and driving mom crazy.

3) Capri style:  Kids can shorten pants to get a capri look or for practical reasons such as

water play.

4) All weather:  Pants can be lifted off the ground when rain and snow
might dampen the hem as kids splash through puddles and muck.  We all
know a wet hem takes forever to dry!

My Hikes have passed USA safety tests for use with children of all ages.

My older daughter has a thin waist and long legs, and I have found it hard to find pants that are small enough for her waist yet long enough for her to wear without being too short.  So, when she passes on her clothing to her younger sister (Lydia age 5 1/2 - in photos), we have the opposite problem - the pants fit her waist but are usually too long for her.  So, we decided to give My Hikes a try.

When offered the choice of design - I had to choose the adorable and "fashionable" flower for Lydia - as she feels that she can't wear anything unless it has "style".  Here favorite outfits are usually skirts or dresses with leggings - getting her to wear jeans is difficult, but now that we have a set of My Hikes - she loves wearing her jeans to school, only with the My Hikes on though lol.

I love the variety of styles - the flower, butterfly and princess crown for girls - train and dump truck for boys  - soccer and baseball for either!  Now if they could just come out with a Peace Sign one for my 9 yr old daughter!

Now, for the only negative I could come up with - my 12 year old son could have used these as he was growing, but My Hikes were not yet invented - yes, I'm serious, that IS my only Negative!  That, and I wish I had a couple more sets of My Hikes but that is easily solved by going to http://www.myhikesusa.com/ to purchase another set or two - OH and bonus - FREE shipping in US ($3.99 to ship to Canada)

AND, of course there HAS to be more right!  My Faithful readers KNOW how much I LOVE deals!

Right now Mom Loves 2 Read's followers can get My Hikes for 40% off!

Just use code MyHikes40off  OR get them for the same discount on Amazon ($11.99 w/free ship USA)

Don't forget - these make great stocking stuffer gifts for kids and moms!

Fanny Foozle Preschool App ~ songs, games, rhymes and more - Review & Giveaway - Holiday Gift Guide 2013

My kids all love to play on my iPad Mini any chance they get.  But my youngest, 5 year old Lydia is addicted to the Preschool Games and Apps I've been able to download for her to play.  One of her new favorites is Fanny Foozle.

FANNY FOOZLE, is a Fun smartphone/tablet application aimed at preschoolers. It is FREE through iTunes & Android Stores, but is $1.99 through Kindle Store. The Fanny Foozle StoryTime App is also FREE for kindle though! There is also a print book that can be purchased through Amazon.com.

Fanny Foozle is a funny little character that sort of reminds me of a Jumping Jelly Bean, that sings, plays with her friends and even has a dog named Sam.  Fanny goes on

interactive adventures that young children will enjoy tagging along with.  Fanny lives in a town called Flamboozle which is filled with fun and funny characters that she loves to interact with on her many adventures.

Fanny starts each playtime with a silly, yet catchy song that I find gets stuck in my head at the oddest of times (like when I found myself humming it under my breath while grocery shopping - got a few strange looks from people too - lol)

Fanny Foozle has a fun story that children love to read along with or have read aloud to her.  Each page of the ebook can be interacted with so the child has fun while reading.  And at the end of the book there are fun games and coloring pages to keep the excitement fresh and fun.  Fanny Foozle is a great learning experience for preschool children. It gives each child the satisfaction of solving mysteries, having fun, singing songs, saying
tongue twisters and learning fundamental life building lessons. It is
positive developmental lesson set in a fun and fanciful world.

FANNY FOOZLE, is a Fun smartphone/tablet application aimed at preschoolers. It is FREE through iTunes & Android Stores, but is $1.99 through Kindle Store.

Lydia loves to read along with Fanny Foozle and her friends. She enjoys the games, songs and interactive parts of the story as well as the game Apps. I think most young children will love having their own read to me, or read along story and games on Mom's or Dad's iPhone or iPad - and having a funny and silly friend to interact with encourages them to use their imaginations as they play and sing along with Fanny and her friends! These apps are fun and engaging and my Lydia just loves them - she also likes to show them to her friends and cousins when they are over to play!

So, check it out on iTunes or Amazon - then, enter below for a chance to win a Print Copy of Fanny Foozle for the young reader to be in your life! Open to US only - must be 18 or older to enter/win!

Noah Zarc Cataclysm by D Robert Pease ~ Review, Giveaway & New Book Out! Holiday Gift Guide 2013

Book 1, Noah Zarc: Mammoth Trouble
Book 2, Noah Zarc: Cataclysm

Book 3, Noah Zarc: Declaration

Noah Zarc Omnibus, includes all three books

 Noah Zarc: Mammoth Trouble

Noah lives for piloting spaceships through
time, dodging killer robots and saving Earth’s animals from extinction.
Life couldn’t be better. However, the twelve-year-old time traveler soon
learns it could be a whole lot worse. His mom is abducted and taken to
thirty-first century Mars; his dad becomes stranded in the Ice Age; and
Noah is attacked at every turn by a foe bent on destroying a newly
habitable, post-apocalyptic Earth.

Traveling through
time in the family’s immense spaceship, Noah, a paraplegic from birth,
must somehow care for the thousands of animals on board, while finding a
way to rescue his parents. Along the way, he discovers his mother and
father aren’t who he thought they were, and there is strength inside him
he didn’t know he had.

My Review:

I LOVED IT! Noah Zarc
Mammoth Trouble is an excellent middle grade adventure that keeps the
reader on the edge of his/her seat.  The characters are endearing and
the story has such depth and true emotion throughout.  The story is full
of danger, boyish determination, and fantastic adventure.

The reader
can join Noah and his family on an exciting journey through time and
space to save earth and lives of the ones they love.  Some difficult
choices must be made, but will Noah make the right choice in time to
save his loved ones?  Find out for yourself, read Noah Zarc: Mammoth
Trouble by D. Robert Pease today.

I really enjoyed reading this book.

Josh's Review (age 12):

This is a great book for middle grade boys, though girls can read it too.  I like the Sci-Fi part - being able to fly not only through Space by Time as well - and being able to see the earth and animals back in time is a great idea.  I really liked reading this book and want to read the next one too.   I know many of my friends would love to read these Noah Zarc books - you should check them out!

Noah Zarc: Cataclysm

Thirteen-year-old Noah Zarc rockets to Venus
in a quest to learn more about his past. He refuses to believe

his
father is really the monster everyone says he is. Could there be valid
reasons for everything he’s done, including abandoning Noah at birth?

While
searching for answers to secrets no one wants to talk about, even those
that have remained hidden for over a thousand years, Noah becomes
embroiled in a mission which could cause the greatest cataclysm in the
history of the solar system. And the name, Noah Zarc, might be forever
linked to the most devastating crime in humanity's existence, all
because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

My Review:

Once again Author D. Robert Pease has captured my sci-fi spirit with the continuing adventures of Noah Zarc and his family.  As a Mom of three kids, one a strong-willed 12 year old boy; I still find myself wanting to put Noah in "Time Out" for some of his misdeeds and disobeying his parents though.

Although Noah is a paraplegic and has to live his life in the modern space version of a wheel chair, he never lets this minor limitation stop him from living his life to it's fullest.  And his parents and siblings don't treat him any differently due to his physical limitations.  Noah's adventures show that no matter the physical issues, anyone can do what is right, save the day, or just plain have fun!

Noah kept me interested throughout this mystery adventure with his determination to see his adventures through and "try" to do what he feels is the right thing to do.  Though many times he ends up in more trouble due to his impetuous nature, I still find myself drawn into the story as I picture my own child and his adventurous spirit, traveling along with Noah and his crew.

I can't wait to see what happens in the next book when it comes out in December 2013!

Just out this month!  Book 3!

Noah Zarc: Declaration

Book 3 in the Noah Zarc Trilogy

The final book in the Noah Zarc Trilogy. – As battles rage
across the solar system, Noah must work to join together a rag-tag bunch
of miners, farmers, and scientists who would rather just live in peace.
With only a time-traveling ship full of animals and a general from the
history books, the Zarc family has to stand against the full might of
the Poligarchy. Will the truth about what really happened a thousand
years in the past be enough to stop total war, or will Noah and his
friends need to find another way to bring down a dictator?

My Review?  Not yet but hopefully SOON!

A Giveaway?  Of course - you should know by now how much I love to give away books!

Author D. Robert Pease is offering one lucky reader here on Mom Loves 2 Read

1 signed paperback of both Noah Zarc: Mammoth Trouble and Noah Zarc: Cataclysm

Little Pim strikes again - Spanish, Japanese, and so much more - Review & Giveaway ~ Holiday Gift Guide 2013

Some of you know Little Pim. They're a foreign language learning company that
introduces children between the ages of 0 and 5 to a foreign language using
DVDs, music CDs, flashcards, and books.

Little Pim was designed around the latest
scientific research regarding language acquisition and brain
development. The method combines the work  of  leading neuroscientist
Dr. April Benasich, and Julia’s own experience as a language teacher,
filmmaker and mother.

Children get very attached to the lovable cartoon panda bear, Little
Pim, who is the series “teacher.” He invites young viewers to join him
in his playful antics as they learn the language along with real
children enjoying everyday activities, such as playing, eating, waking and napping.

The entire video series is spoken by native speakers,
and words are presented and repeated at regular intervals. Each Little
Pim DVD focuses on sixty words and phrases typically acquired in a
toddler’s primary language, providing the essential building blocks for
language acquisition.

Little Pim is designed and paced for developing minds.

Young children respond enthusiastically to Little Pim’s format, a
combination of animation and live action. Babies respond to black and
white, and therefore the panda captures the attention of even the
youngest viewers. Each video deals with a theme relevant to young kids,
and is segmented into 5-minute episodes to accommodate a young child’s
attention span and encourage pausing for parent interaction. Simple
sentences are broken down into easy-to-understand parts, and reinforced
through repetition.

My Review:

For this review I chose the Spanish DVD from Little Pim. We have previously reviewed the Japanese DVD

and my two girls have already learned quite a bit from it.  My older daughter took notes, memorized some words and was able to impress her best friend over the summer when they visited from Japan.

Now, we decided to check out the Spanish DVD so I could brush up on my High School Spanish - It has been more years than I care to admit since I took Spanish in High School but I still remember some.

I had the opportunity recently to try to understand and converse with someone who speaks mostly Spanish with a little English - It was easier since I have been watching the Spanish DVD with my youngest from Little Pim.

The DVD is cute, and the panda is adorable and I love the Option of adding Subtitles (so I can cheat when  necessary - lol)  The complete Immersion method makes it so that the child (and parent) watching the DVD hear the same word or phrase repeated over and over in the language they are trying to learn - it helps when I encourage my daughter to repeat the words or phrases with the Panda on the screen.

If you want to have your child learn a second language, and are willing to start them young - then Little Pim does have great quality products to assist with that.

I See Me in everything I do - Personalized Children's Books & Gifts Review & GIVEAWAY - Holiday Gift Guide 2013

What is something that you could surprise your children with this Christmas?  How about a book, ebook, lunchbox or placemat personalized just for him or her?

A book or ebook all about your child ~ with family members, friends and favorites all through the story.  A personalized book just for your child about your child.

For younger children, start with My Very Own Name - an educational book that teaches young children how to recognize the letters that spell their name - and they can color it too!  Just like this one I had done for my little 3 year old niece - her name is VIOLET - so the whole story is about her, with her name spelled out - a different letter on each page, and a fun rhyme and adorable animals that go

along with each letter.  What a fun and unique way to learn the letters to spell her name - AND animals and objects that start with each of those letters!

More about these personalized coloring books:

Your child will love to color the animals that bring
letters one by one to spell out his or her first name, in this highly
personalized coloring and activity book. The moose brings the M, the
elephant brings the E, and so on. This fun-filled, educational coloring
book helps your child learn to recognize letters and spell his or her
first name, and it includes personalized games and mazes to enrich the
coloring experience.

As an added personal touch, this high
quality coloring book includes a printed dedication from the sender. It
has a soft cover with premium white paper that provides great results
with crayons, watercolors, pastels and pencils. Made in the USA and
written by Maia Haag.

Next, you could choose a personalized lunch box for your school age children - like this one I had done for my youngest Lydia - She felt left out since her older siblings attend school all day and often take their lunches in their own lunch boxes - so for Lydia - she has one just for her alone -

It is so cute with Butterflies and flowers all over and her name on every side - to top it all off, there is a magnetic chalkboard inside the top that is perfect for adding notes, reminders or a fun message from Mom or Dad!  What a fun surprise to find a fun note when she has her lunch break during the school day next year!

More about these lunchboxes:

Our personalized lunch boxes make your child feel special
every day! Each one of our lunch boxes features your child’s name on
multiple sides. On the inside lid, there’s a chalkboard where you can
write a personalized note to your child each morning!

Safe for
storing food, our lunch boxes are made of tin and contain no lead.
They’re also great for storing toys and other treasures!

Finally - can't forget the coming Christmas Gift for my youngest - I could not get a photo of her with it since it will be for her for Christmas but you get a sneak peek of what Santa has sent her this year -

Santa himself sent her a personalized book about an adorable Christmas Bear - with the adorable bear to play with an a letter from Santa too! Written just for her by Santa himself - what young child wouldn't love
having Santa leave her a letter, a personalized book and adorable bear
under the tree.  I can't wait to see the joy on her face when she sees that Santa left her a letter!  And inside this story - all the Stockings hanging by the fire have the names of our family members (even our precious dog)!  Such a cute idea - I love it!

Nativity Story App Review ~ Children can enjoy the Story of the Nativity on ipad or iphone

The Nativity Story App

Where will the Baby Jesus be born?  At the Market? At a restaurant? At the Inn?

Readers of this book app can follow Joseph and Mary on their search for a place to stay in Bethlehem.

Along the way they encounter a variety of colorful local people and animals.

Great for kids 2-10

Watch a
video on The Nativity Story App:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtBhge8DWFA

Why Kids Love This
App

  • It's like a vintage pop-up book, with classic
    woodcut-style illustrations

  • By tapping and swiping, kids can help Joseph and
Mary find a place to stay.

  • Knock on doors... Pull on the rope... Ring the
bell... Open windows... Make people talk...

  • Create music! Help a band of angels play their
    instruments.

  • Lots of characters to get to know: Innkeeper,
Merchant, Shepherds, Chef, A Band of Actors, Neighbourhood Children, Mary's
Donkey, Farm Animals and of course... Angels!

  • Funny sound effects!

Why Parents & Grandparents Love
This App

  • Nostalgia. It feels like a classic pop-up book,
bringing back memories for parents and grandparents.

  • Optional Narration: Listen to the old-timey
narrator tell the story, or read the story yourself.

  • EXTRA Feature: After the story, explore the
original Bible text that tells the Nativity Story.

  • Amazing Visual Quality: Support for retina
    display

How is This Christmas App
Different?

  • Production Values - It is
a work of art: a rich visual and sound experience.

  • Interactive - We use the
touch technology and animation to engage the reader in the story in an
    enchanting and educational way.

  • Age approach - The
classic Bible story is retold here with an original and creative approach that
appeals to young kids as well as adults.

  • Original - The app is
designed like a vintage popup book and includes unique features such as
interacting with a band of angels and playing instruments like trumpet and harp.

Our Review:

This is a fun interactive app for kids to show the Nativity Story and help them see what Christmas is all about.  Children can follow along in the story as Mary & Joseph travel by donkey to find a place to stay so Mary can have her baby.  When all the rooms are full, what are they going to do?

Although the interactive app is fun for kids of all ages, it is not biblically correct, so as long as parents or grandparents don't expect the story to be told as the Scriptures tell it, this is a fun app for kids.  My youngest loves moving the donkey around on the page, nodding it's head, opening doors and windows and hearing the conversations of the people on each "page" of the "book."  The fun interactions are great for children to help keep their attention and show how fun it can be to read books even ebooks.

I love that there are two choices - read it yourself - or "read to me" for children who can not yet read it themselves.  Such a great app for this Holiday Season.

And Lydia says "I love this story, it is so much fun and the donkey moves all around.  It's great for kids like me."

Currently this app is priced at:

For the iPad
($3.99)

The Nativity Story - Popup DELUXE
Edition https://itunes.apple.com/app/id579941573

For the iPhone
