The Unmaking! Nichole Nordeman’s Newest CD ~ Review and Giveaway

For this review I received the new CD from Nichole Nordeman ~ The Unmaking. The Unmaking has six amazing songs that really lift my spirits.  The Unmaking is a beautiful mix of songs for worship and encouragement. With words and music that brought me to tears and reminded me as I listened just houw precious we all are in God's sight, and that He is always waiting to lift us up in our times of need.

Oh My Gravy!  Yep, that's my new catchphrase - but back to the point - Wow! I have had an amazing experience these past few weeks listening to one of my favorite Christian Artists' newest CD – The Unmaking. And not only am I excited, but my girls absolutely love to swipe this CD and take it to their

rooms to blast some tunes too.  So it has traveled around my home and even into the car for our listening pleasure!  Now I am encouraging all of you to check it out for yourselves!  And don't forget to enter for a chance to WIN!

I found this on her website - It is so moving I had to share a bit with you . . .

STORY BEHIND THE SONG - THE UNMAKING:

What can I build for God?

I’ve spent my life asking this.

Maybe it’s because I misunderstood what God wanted when I was young, or maybe it’s my own pride and ambition, or maybe somewhere in my heart I still secretly suspect that God measures and rates and reviews my spiritual accomplishments. I don’t even know what “spiritual accomplishments” actually means. Maybe I still want to have “something to show” for all this work I’ve done along the journey. So I want to build something for God. I’d like for it to be tall and impressive and for a whole bunch of people to take notice. Especially God.

Not too long ago, I heard a pastor friend of mine named Andrew Arndt say this, “God longs for resurrection in us…but first we have to go through some measure of unmaking.”

Unmaking? That sounded like the opposite of what I’d been trying to accomplish spiritually for years. I sat with those words for a long time.

Before things in our lives can be resurrected and given new life, certain things must die. Before beauty blooms in spring, roots must do the hard work under  . . . .[keep reading]

A Time For Everything by Misti Parker ~ Historical Romantic Suspense has never been better! #MystiParkerBooks

After losing her husband and only child to the ravages of the Civil War, twenty-five-year-old Portia McAllister is drowning in grief. When she sees an ad for a live-in tutor in another town, she leaves everything behind in hopes of making a fresh start. But as a Confederate widow in a Union household, she is met with resentment from her new charge and her employer, war veteran Beau Stanford.

Despite their differences, she and Beau find common ground and

the stirrings of a second chance at love—until his late wife’s cousin, Lydia, arrives with her sights set on him. Burdened with a farm on the brink of bankruptcy, Beau is tempted by Lydia’s hefty dowry, though Portia has captured his heart.

In another time and another place, his choice would be easy. But love seems impossible amid the simmering chaos of Reconstruction that could boil over at any moment into an all-out battle for survival. Will Beau and Portia find their way into each other’s arms, or will they be swept away by raging forces beyond their control?

Review:

I love this story.  From the first opening scene through the final chapter Portia's story kept me reading and reading.  I really could not put this "book" down.

Portia has been through terrible tragedy and heartbreak to the point she wished to die.  But her loving sister and brother-in-law would not allow her to give in to her grief.  So Portia finds a way to get on with her life by taking a position as a live in tutor for a young boy with troubles of his own.

Beau is reluctant to have a young unmarried woman in his home.  He thinks his father is trying to set him up so his initial reaction to Portia is not favorable.  But over time, he comes to see her in a different way, but it might be too late for love.

Portia and Beau both come from lives that are filled with loss, grief and very difficult choices.  The struggles they overcome seem tremendous.  Their story is one that is worth reading, but a little caution; due to adult situations and circumstances, I would recommend this book for 16 and up.  It is clean for the most part but definitely not for younger readers.

*A Time For Everything can be purchased in paperback or ebook on Amazon

How Cool Is that! My Kids Shine when riding their bikes with Super Bright Rim Lights #bikelights

What do your kids do when it is too dark to ride their bikes in the evening?  Do they whine? fuss? throw a fit?  I know I do (LOL)  Now they can ride a LITTLE longer with Longer Lasting Rim Lights - plus they just look so darn cool!

  • Light up your bike at night with the Speed Racer rim lights - Choose from three different styles

  • Motion sensor LED technology ensures durability along with 50,000 hours of lifetime

  • Easy to install - simple attach LED wheel flash light to valve stem on bike. Fits almost all bikes.

  • Package includes A 3 pack of 2 x green 2 x blue 2 x colorful LED Valve Bike Lights

  • Speed Racer is rust resistant, 1100% waterproof and usable through any terrain.

Review:

I would definitely NOT use these as Safety Lights but as an added fun feature on a child (or adult) bike.  And yes, they CAN even be used on cars and trucks for all you Big Kids!

These "Longest Lasting Super Bright Rim Lights" as the description states, arrived in a package of 6.  2 of each color ~ 2 flashing different colors, 2 blue and 2 green.  I was planning to put them on my bike and ride it fast to see if it would look anything like the photo above that is with the product information but my girls vetoed that idea right away.  They both wanted to be the ones to try out these cool new lights, so of course being the Perfect SuperMom that I am (NOT!) I told them that the could (basically I didn't have anyone to work the camera if I rode - LOL)

Unfortunately that was around 5pm and not nearly dark enough that the lights could be seen so we had to wait for . . . ev. . . .er for it to be somewhat dark enough for the video.  Let me know what you think  -

Video after being put on the tire - doesn't take much movement for them to start working:

10 yr old sister's video:

Now, they were easy to put on, and easy to get off - though I recommend some caution as the parts are mostly plastic.  Don't turn to forcefully they could break - just a warning, it did not happen with us.

The one thing I don't like is the type of batteries.  Yes, I know - what else would fit that small of a space but button cell batteries - but they are expensive to replace! I would say for $13.95 on Amazon, when the batteries do die, it would be cheaper less expensive to replace the lights than to purchase new batteries - each light takes 3 button cells.  BUT, the description says they should last 50,000 hours so that means I should basically NEVER have to replace them . . . .in theory.

Overall they are cute and fun to use, but unless you are a speed demon, they won't look like the picture of the whole inner tire turning colors - but they will look cool and get you noticed!

Yummy Goodness from Butter Braid ~ Guest Post Giveaway & Review

Check out this great Giveaway & Review from my friend over at Tales from A Southern Mom!

Double Chocolate long crop

So, school has started or maybe going to start this next week and your kids do not want to get out of bed. I have the solution, Butter Braid! This is a fabulous pastry that you can take from your freezer the night before and put it in the pan, wait for it to rise and bake it the next morning. When your

family smells this baking they will be running out of their rooms to get their share!

Butter Braid was so wonderful and sent me:

  • Strawberry & Cream Cheese

  • Cinnamon

  • Apple

  • Double Chocolate

  • Raspberry

  • Blueberry & Cream Cheese

All of them are so good and when school time comes your kids are wide awake and ready to go. I know around here no matter what it is if they smell something baking they are all coming into the kitchen to see what is going on.

I like how you can have the Butter Braid in the freezer, and if you get wind someone is coming from dinner, you can take it out and let it thaw and be ready to bake after your dinner. What a treat!

I was excited to learn that Butter Braid pastries fundraising has helped schools and other no profit groups raise over $165 million! That is huge, you can have your sweets and help a good cause!

The fact that these are hand braided in a small town in Iowa using only quality ingredients gives them a wonderful handmade appearance and taste nobody has to know this was sitting in your freezer, just waiting for you to bake it for them!

This is one of those things that just fills a few purposes all at one time. They are convenient they taste great, they help schools and other raise money, can get people moving in the morning with their great home bakes smell, and they are such a high quality product.

You can check out all of their product at their website here and here are the instructions for handling and baking the Butter Braid Pastries.

Now for the best part Butter Braid is giving away a 6 pack to one lucky reader and they will get to try the wonderfulness of these great products!
